apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

East #1: Kris' "Winter in Paris"

9-29-fc08-ny-1.jpg

Name: Kris Chau
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Type of Home: South Philly 100 yr old row home

fallcolors1.jpgWhat inspired you to use color? This is our very first home, and it was a fixer upper. After living in so many apartments, it was the very first time we had total control over every aspect of our house. Color was the very first and least scary, thing we thought of in starting to make our home, ours!...

Color Tip: Before you get panicky, wait till it dries! Also, trust your natural design instincts, be confident in the color you choose!

Colors Used: "Winter in Paris" and "Smokescreen"

i'm so glad to see this contest kick off! nice place. pics are a bit dark so it's hard to make out the hues and contrasts but i like what you've got. this is encouraging. i think i'll enter!

Nice mood, but I'm guessing the colors in the photos aren't accurate depictions. In the next-to-last photo, everything, including the laptop, is yellow, and that must be the photography. So, I don't think I can be wowed by the use of color.

Ugg.. seriously people at AT, could you spend less time dreaming up more awkward interfaces? The WHOLE page needs to reload to see EACH photo? Cause thats not wholly obnoxious.

And oh yeah, nice colors, a little soft without much punch. Beautiful, but not necessarily bold.

Modfan i was thinking the same thing (about the interface).
as for the house, its charming, but i guess i'm not into the muted color palette. This makes me want to enter as well (i live in philly too!).

Yay! I love this contest! I like that your walls are neutral but still have a hint of color to them.
I feel like there are a lot "holes" in the place though. There's lots more room for color. :)

Oh... and, um AT... we can has javascript? Modfan is right, page reloads are not fun. But the new photo interface! Just utilize some javascript-y goodness. :)

I like the curtain panels a lot...and the soft baby blue that would NEVER work in my place but is beautiful in yours...but I wouldn't say this is a bold use of color....see if you can get better lighting in your images..the lack of light could be washing out your colors so they don't look as good as they might in real life!

I like this...but would love to see more of the apt. Where did you get your curtains?? So cute!

Some of the photos are a little dark and depressing. The last photo shows us how light it is outside and how dark it is inside. PULL BACK the curtains. Let the sun in.

sorry for the potentially ignorant question, but might you share the paint brand as well?

It is welcoming, imagnitive, and has a lot of character. Well done. You have strengthened the use of "green" and know when to leave a find "as is". Just great.

It's coming together cutely, but I don't get a lot of "color contest winner" out of this. It's very neutral for the most part and mellow, not a lot to distinguish it in this aspect.

I'm guessing the whole page reload issue to see each photo is intentional, you know, to increase the page view count.

It is so fucking hard to register to leave a comment, after scrolling down for two minutes, then registering, being approved, then logging on again with name and password, if it accepts everything the first six times, fix your fucking website!
