East #16: Carol's Custom Color

fallcolors1.jpgName: Carol
Location: Astoria, NY
Type of Home: rental apt.
What inspired you to use color? Design blogs like Apartment Therapy, SFgirlbybay, Design*Sponge; and magazines like Domino and Blueprint (now sadly no longer around!). Living in New York, I see some amazing apartments and get ideas from friends' places, boutiques, and many other places...

Color Tip: Use it!
Colors Used: The blue in my living room is Old Pickup Blue. The color on my bedroom walls is a unique blend that'll never be replicated — I started out too pink and took it back to the hardware store three times to remix, and ended up with this gorgeous taupe-ish color that changes with the light.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Hi Solano, I got the desk from Target (it's actually a computer desk - the drawer is a keyboard space). I switched out the knob - the one there is from Anthropologie. Carol

The bedroom is so cute !!!
I could sleep there... ;-P
The colors are harmonics and equilibrated.
But... changing the sofa and chaises is necessary and urgent !!!

It's not just the color that's amazing, it's the composition of the elements and the way you bring those colors together. I prefer the bedroom here to the other room, to extent that I LOVE it, and I merely like-a-lot the other. Good job!

thanks for all the feedback! i really enjoying reading what everyone has to say and suggestions are always helpful.

sile and CityGrrl77 - i made the bird prints. i had been seeing a lot of bird art around town and thought it wouldn't be too hard to replicate - i started with a black Sharpie and used acrylic paints to color them in.

ZiiipA - i agree about the futon and chairs! they'll definitely be replaced when i can afford it. :)

The bedroom is the best part! I love the wall color contrasted with the pink and white accents. Brilliant!

I adore your bedroom. Is your side table from IKEA? And did you paint the drawer inserts white? It's totally got my gears turning....

Thanks for sharing your home!
