East #21: Neeta's "Lovely Lavender"

fallcolors1.jpgName: Neeta
Location: New York, NY
Type of Home: 1 Bedroom Apartment
What inspired you to use color? Color is an avenue of expression for me to make my living space my sanctuary. The colors I use on my walls, in my furniture, and with my accents bring out emotions in me to help me unwind, feel safe, and experience an unlimited feeling of being pampered every time I step into my home...

Color Tip: Colors bring out emotions, so be sure you want to feel relaxed before choosing pastels, or feel energized and powerful before choosing a color like red.
Colors Used: I've used Behr paint in three of my homes now, and it's never let me down. My favorite is: Behr Lovely Lavender.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

What a nasty thing to say! I say, if lavendar walls make you happy, paint your walls lavendar!

Isn't that the point? We should all do what makes us happy. It's a good thing that everyone doesn't have the same taste. The world would be pretty boring, if that was the case.

The living room area is too neutral compared to the bedroom...let the color fly in there too!

I like the lavender. I had a living room this color once. I also like thestained glass on the tops of those dining chairs.

On closer inspection, it's not glass, is it? I still like them.

Uh, you got something against framed prayers? Cause if you do I can come and talk to you about that.

I really like your choices. I'm fond of lavender, too. Your home is warm, cozy, and inviting. My personal style runs to shabby chic. If everyone liked mid-century furniture, the world would be a bland place.

Don't our comments affect who moves on to the next bracket though? I think (I could be wrong) the judges use our comments to decide what the popular rooms are...if we can't be honest (without being mean) on what we think, then how is the winner decided?

I think the lavendar room is a little too precious, too young, but I think if the pine furniture were changed out for modern dark furniture, and the white comforter went steel grey, it would look more 'adult'. If lavendar is your fave color, then totally go for it...but I think there is a better way to use it..

Amiencc, just out of curiosity, do you feel that way about all Lavendar or just this one?

The colour doesn't seem to tie in with the furniture and other than paint colour I don't really see much use of other colour choices or colour story. Also using fake flowers is really tricky and they almost always look cheap.

I don't mind the lavender color, but this house on the whole just does not do it for me. It really does look like my grandma decorated it.

The nice thing about your place is that it is that - your place. The warmth and love that you put into it reflects your sense of peace and self. I love the colors of your walls, the lavender and gold just hues that don't fight each other. What also adds to the warmth is that there is no pretense to be trendy, chic, or hip.

Remember folks, to each his own.
