East #26: Jo's Bright & Happy Colors

fallcolors3.jpgName: Jo
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Type of Home: 1920's rowhouse
What inspired you to use color? Prior to this house, my husband and I had been living in rentals with white walls. So we really looked forward to the opportunity to add some color to the walls. Because the house had so many white crown moldings and trims, we really wanted some bold colors to make the white pop. The bedroom colors were inspired by the Greek Isles. We used so many bright and happy colors that it reminds me of the kind of "house" you'd see in children's storybooks...

Color Tip: I have such a hard time picturing what the room will look like from a small paint chip. So I love Behr's ColorSmart option of seeing what the colors look like in a room. My other advice is: go and take a risk. The worst that can happen is that you paint over it!
Colors Used: Behr's California Poppy, Running Water, Straw Hat, Rivers Edge, Jamaican Sea

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Jo -- great job! Beautiful colors, beautiful home! Do you mind sharing what part of the city you're in? I live in University City and have been doing some experimentation with color in my own house. Thanks!

I like how each of your rooms looks great on its own but yet there is still cohesion in the colors between rooms. Nice work!

Go Philly! (And go Phillies!!) I love what you've done with your place and I especially love that red. When I finally move out of my white-walled Philly rental I plan to paint my living room that very same shade of red. Fantastic!

Nice to see another Philly entry! Great use of bold colors here. I especially loved the kitchen area with that dreamy turquoise blue.

I love that I've seen this floor plan before in the homes of my Philly friends. You've really done something great with your home.

Thanks for the compliments! We had a lot of fun slowly putting this place together. We lived out in University City and then Center City but now we're out by Saint Joe's. Cheers!
