East #30: James' "Shoreline Blue"

10-10-fc08-ny-30.jpg

fallcolors2.jpgName: James
Location: Asbury Park, NJ
Type of Home: owned condo
What inspired you to use color? This place needed to be a total opposite of the rich, warm and deep palate of our house in Northern NJ, and we wanted to capture a beachy spirit without the cliches. Almost everything is hand-me-down. No money to refinish the kitchen, but $150 worth of paint went a long way (even covering mauve laminate countertops!)...

Color Tip: Always go one color deeper than you THINK you want on a color chip... bold is better!
Colors Used: Living Room- Ralph Lauren "Shoreline Blue"; Dining- Ralph Lauren "Emperor"; dark living room wall- Behr "Trail Print"; Bedroom- Martha Stewart for Valspar "Shantung Gown"; kitchen is all Ralph Lauren.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

This is a nice condo! It's not my own personal style, but it's got good colors and some fun elements.

In terms of creating a "beachy" house without the cliche, I think you did a great job.

Very nice! I really like this. The dining room picture has to be my favorite...that color is gorgeous! I'm with you on the paint colors...bold is better!

This is absolutely beautiful. The only exception that I take with it is the bed. It's just too much for such a small/short room.

I'm not a blue person, but you make them work very well in your space. Yes to the sexy colors in the bedroom.

I like the dining area palette very much. The darker shoreline blue is a fresh take on typical seaglass-y beach house. And I disagree with the comment about the bed being too big for its room. The posts are slim and the silhouette airy. It works well and reads clean.

Great color choices. Depicts seaside very well ... without being in any way a cliche ...

Great spaces, and great use of colors. The rooms are great in tone and in decor. :) Nice job, indeed.

I think James has done a great job of "un-condoing" a condo. And I love that brown wall in the living area...It transitions the brighter blue rooms to the dark and cozy bedroom quite nicely. Nice use of color for sure!

A beautifully revitalized home in a recently revitalized old shore town. Great that you did it with mimimal cost and lots of style and imagination. Have used some of the same brands of paint but not the exact colors, and you have blended them skillfully for a coordinated and rich look. Lovely transition to the several areas and rooms.

The colors are rich, warm and comfortable. They are bold choices yet create a cohesive space. I also enjoy your choice of art for each room...very unique.

This is an arty, warm and chic retreat. The Color choices are clean and not overworked. The space looks functional and stylish.

Great use of color and especially blue which can be hard to work with, getting the right hues etc. Great job. Appreciate the use of numbers. Thanks.
