Name: Gina
Location: New York, NY
Type of Home: Sublet apartment in an old converted school building.
What inspired you to use color? When I was a kid, I didn’t draw a picture without a rainbow in it and the box of 64 Crayolas was always worn down to tiny little stubs. I’m always inspired to use color. The colors I’m most passionate about are generally in the blue and purple families, but I wouldn’t rule out anything. I think a great example of color inspiration is the photos on the kitchen wall. I was in a market in Sicily and I couldn’t stop taking photos of all of the different stands. The vegetables were so vibrant; more like art objects than food...
Color Tip: Know what you are trying to say in any given space. The wide expanses of wall, the high ceilings and big windows in the living room are so striking that there is no way this room isn’t going to be impressive when you walk in, so the red wall was all in keeping with that impact. In my bedroom, I was aiming for color that is soothing without being dull. Just because you love a color doesn’t mean it’s going to agree with your space.
Colors Used: The colors are all Behr from HomeDepot. Easy to come by and they have a really good selection. I’m happy with how they lay on the walls. The unifying neutral is Lightweight Beige. It’s used throughout the apartment on all the trim, the ceilings and the neutral walls. The red wall is Ripe Currant. Can't remember the green in the kitchen at the moment. My bedroom is Ash Violet.
Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

This is definitely one of the better school-to-apartment/condo conversions I've seen, and your lovely color only enhances that! The bed - I want it now!

It's evident in this picture that you are dealing with a large space, which can be a daunting task to face. But you have definitely handled that challenge (albeit a very nice challenge) well. The furniture and wall hangings are nicely proportioned to fit the space so as to ensure that it feels lived in rather than empty. Also, the colors are fantastic-- not too much to overwhelm people, just enough to make the space feel alive.

I've always wanted to live in a converted school. Your use of color is rich and lovely. I have been wanting to paint a room purple and it is hard to find the right shade; your shade is perfect. The gray undertone makes it a less aggressive color.
You've hung art in such interesting configurations. I love the small black and white print (who is that by?)under the polar bear print. The small piece underneath larger piece is an unusual set up and really works.
Those sheets are killing me! Gorgeous. I'm also really into the use of red touched throughout the apartment.
First entry this round that I'm inspired to comment on!

Wow, your place is absolutely amazing! It's clear that you have a natural eye for design, color, and style! I love the brightness of the dining room (the last photo), with all the reds & yellows... And the living room, with the collection of pictures above that great-looking brown couch -- it gives such a sense of calm and relaxation! Beautiful photos, too, by the way!
