East #64: Jen's "Timothy Straw"

fallcolors2.jpgName: Jen
Location: Harrington Park, NJ
Type of Home: 100-year-old house renovated in 2004

What inspired you to use color? I traveled with a ballet company for a while, and saw some truly amazing color around the world. Places that stand out for me include Turkey, Japan, Italy, and Mexico. But I also grew up with color. My parents enjoy color, and used it well in our home...

Color Tip: Invest in the paint deck(s) from a quality line of paint such as Benjamin Moore - it's worth the money. I also like to make swatches of colors I am considering on big pieces of foam core.

Colors Used: Benjamin Moore: Timothy Straw (2149-40), Water Drops (659), Arctic Blue (2050-60), White Swan (927), Delightful Golden (2158-30), Greenbrook (517)

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

What a lovely home - and some of the choices are very interesting/inspiring...

...such as using the West Elm sideboard as a vanity in the guest bath, the pair of orange velvet chairs in the living room and the paired vintage Danish Modern hexagonal mirrors in the Master Bath.

Even the exterior - with it's orange stucco and red roof shingles - is bright and attractive.

Ohh, lovely house! Thank you for sharing! I adore the bone-colored artwork on the chest, beautiful.

Could you please tell me where the living room modular bookshelves come from? I desperately need those (or similar ones) for my books.

Lovely, serene home with perfect pops of color. Timothy Straw is a great Benjamin Moore color. I used that color throughout my clients entire condo and it worked like a charm. It's a great neutral with a little edge to it. The living room has eastern coastal exposure. Notice how different the color reads:

I lurve this house!! Lots of it has blue and green which are my favorite colors, so obviously it appeals to me. But it's sooo cozy and warm and feels like a real home even though it's super stylish. I love the big rug under the dining table and the backsplash in the kitchen. The bathrooms are AMAZING! All the colors work together so well (and the openness of the house is so great). Every picture is going in my inspiration folder!

Great renovation! I love the exterior look, and it feels like the interior colors are a natural progression. The dark floors work really well as a neutral and help bolden both the walls and the area colors. Great job!
