apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

International #5: Kelley's Self-Mixed Colors

fallcolors2.jpgName: Kelley
Location: Heidelberg, Germany
Type of Home: apartment
What inspired you to use color? Military housing tends to be boring white boxes and everyone has the same neutral color scheme. Color helps differentiate my home from everyone else’s. A few years (and apartments) ago a friend of mine had her apartment decorated in vibrant, eclectic colors and I was awed. I painted my dining room that week...

Color Tip: Be brave and be flexible.
Colors Used: We are responsible for home maintenance and are provided paint. In white. If I want color, I have to mix it myself. So I get to name them as well. The dining room is Lemonade, the living room is Melon Margarita, that purple is Gumdrop, my son's room is Medieval, my daughter's room is Kismet.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Thank you!

That white unit is actually a DIY makeover. My last house didn't have a linen closet and my dad was given this piece by a client. Here's the awful "before" picture.

Kelley, I live in military housing in Germany too. I was wondering where you got the color for the paint & how you mixed it. Also, any home resources you could direct me to would be much appreciated!
