Meet the Judges: Ryan Turf & Judy Miller

10-21-cb2judges.jpgMany readers have asked how we whittled the regional entries down to the 16 finalists for each region &mdash the six judges individually chose 16 finalists from each region based on the entry's use of color, creativity, overall attractiveness and YOUR comments. The four Managing Editors for Apartment Therapy's city sites had the help of some judges from our contest sponsor, CB2: Ryan Turf & Judy Miller. Well, if they chose the 16 finalists based on the entry's use of color, creativity, overall attractiveness and OUR comments, I'd say that many of us would probably agree that they haven't really paid attention...

Some of the qualifying entrants breezed through despite having more negative comments than positive ones, some breezed through despite having more white and brown than color, and some breezed through showing little to no overall creativity. It seems that many of us are pretty darn dissappointed in the final field.

I predict that CB2 will be trying to sell us a lot of brown in the near future.

How were the entrants paired up against one another? The face-offs seem to go against anything like a fair competition.

I am disappointed that Gretchen's home was eliminated so early. I really liked Jesse's home also, and it was clear they both have a great sense of style and color. How was this contest designed so that good entries get prizes? I haven't seen many entries that approach this skill and eye in a thoroughly personalized way. I am sorry for the other entries also. Many are okay and have their merits, but not all of them deserve to pass to the next round, though they will. I am disappointed in the execution of this contest and how the entrants were selected and paired. It's clear that as long as you have your sponsor, none of what's fair really matters to you.
