East #10: New York Muhtari's Colorful Artwork

fallcolors3.jpgName: New York Muhtari
Location: New York, NY
Type of Home: 1 Bedroom Coop apartment
What inspired you to use color? I am not talented like Vincent Van Gogh to create the most amazing paintings but I love & use his ideas of color to create an environment that makes me wanna come home with much joy & happiness. Here is what the master inspired me with his own words on color. "Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I see before me, I make more arbitrary use of colour to express myself more forcefully ... To express the thought of a brow by the radiance of a light tone against a dark background. To express hope by some star. Someone's passion by the radiance of the setting sun." Vincent van Gogh, 1888...

Color Tip: Even though I own my apartment, I still did not find the courage to paint the walls. In order to bring colors into my one bedroom apartment, I use real art work. As a matter of fact I have 39 paintings around the apartment. (My friends think with my love of art, the next project would be building a wall to make room for newly purchased art work)

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Hi Guys,

The artwork was a temporary solution in lieu of a headboard but I received such a wonderful feedback from family & friends, I decided to keep it like this for a while. I bought the set in a store in Union Square, cannot remember the name though:-((

The small mirror in the entrance hallway was purchased from a church yard sale and I love it.

Mini goodies in the cart is a matching item for the dresser in my bedroom, the knobs have the cart wheels, so cute.

I submitted the apt photos twice by mistake and this is the one I submitted earlier, hopefully AT will make the changes and you will see another corner of my apt. (the kitchen photo seems to be repetitive).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

They say that home is where the heart is and you can really feel the warmth and love in this apartment. I have never been inside but I can understand that it is somewhere I would like to be at the end of my day.
The colors and the art and furniture all come together in a magical way. There is not one prevailing theme and because of that I believe that the apartment appeals to many people with different tastes.
You are a true inspiration...good luck with the contest

good job. & i totally agree w/ you. art is a great way to add color to your home. & it's way easier to swap out than paint.

I love the paintings over the bed especially. The art in general looks great against white, but hope you get the courage to just try some color on one wall or door someday. It would transform the space and you would wonder why you didn't try it sooner.

This is a place i'd like to live in, but I'd like to see more of the rooms not only details, which are stunning anyway.

Am I the only one who's not in love with this place? I like some of the color choices - especially the brightly colored tufted couch. But overall - still feels a little empty and bland. Like a bunch of paintings on a white wall... good, but not sophisticated, creative, or challenging.

The first photos seem yellow. Not a fan of those wall hangings in photos 4 and 6. They look like something that should be on a wall in a grade school.

You didn't use ORANGE. That's a plus in my book.

The bedroom looks comfortable!
