Why I use color:
"Why should not I? B&W looks good in old movies and nostalgic photos,
but not in my home. I am not good with words. So I let the visual
medium do the talking for me. It is nice every evening to walk into
a place that is bursting with welcoming energy. It took me 5 years
and a bad winter with a leaky roof, to finally get the place painted.
Each of the rooms and stairwells have different colors and I just
love it. [Some of you may recognize the table that I asked about
once. I went with round soft ottoman seating from BBB for now]"

Color Tips:
"Do not be put off by what others say. You will be living there, not
them. Do not be afraid, you can always redo things. It is not end of
the world. If you are not sure about how to go about, just pick up some basics of combining colors from lots of good books out there then start with a color YOU LOVE.
Colors seem to look a shade different on the wall than they do on
the chips. Try it first.
If you are using a painter, try to get somebody who does the talking
AND painting. Often these are two different sets of people and the
results can be less than what you expect."

Color Resources:
"I have some color books. But I find most of the inspiration from
travelling the city streets and lush country sides in season with
OPEN eyes. Always looking for "what makes" a thing beautiful to me.
Also looking at travel photo journals from exotic locales. I am
originally from India where colors are just different :-) when you
can get away from the dust and pollution!
Playing with the huge collection of color chips from all the paint
manufacturers has always been a great stimulation for me. Makes me
keep changing my mind every other day."

This is very warm, deep, bright, yet nicely nuanced.
A nicely realized, beautifully styled space.
Wonderful! Truly I think the best of the ones that have been posted, rich and lived-in as well as sleek and well put-together. I'm impressed how elements I'd find a peculiar combination by description (black table and white ottomans in a red room) have been made to work. (Not to mention how a red room has resisted overdoing the chinoiserie!) I would be interested in seeing and closer-up pictures. Inspiring!
My first thought on seeing this room? "Damn, someone did a great job with red. Now my place doesn't look so good."
Wow, really vibrant room. Quite-well edited and very appealing. Good job.
FABULOUS. What red is that?
My vote for #1 at the moment. Managed to make a room 75% red, while still leaving me saying "Awesome room" instead "Awesome red room."
i really like this, but i bet i'd love it even more in the bleak mid-winter when it must be very cozy and warm.
Thanks for the kind words..
I think shrinking the fotos take away some of vibrancy of the colors. The red on the back wall is called Dark Mango from one of the colors they sell at Lowe's. The side walls are Dusk Pink from Benjamin Moore. The room is still a work in progress. The left wall is going to have some photos once I figure out how to hang them without makign too many holes in the wall.
There is also going to be a narrow low almost japanese style bench on the left. It is currently in my workshop getting redone.
The lamp from the ceiling is another project that i started a few years ago. But have not yet gotten it done. Since then I have had newer ideas.
The curtains are from Expo. I like the clean grommet style and I was immediately taken my them when I saw them and had to do some color iterations before I settled on the current ones.
The carpet is of course Flor.
The red bench is from Overstock.com.
I love red and I was quite apprehensive when I started. Luckily I did not take advice from too many folks. I think I am happy the way the colors turned out. The room also gets lot of sunlight during the day. Makes the colors very warm.
Wow. Just...wow.
Now my place seems very dull!
wow
and I thought this contest was making me sick of orange...
Love it!
Dust Pink and Dark Mango, is it? I can see the two colors against each other in the top right corner of the first picture, but until you mentioned the colors, I just thought: delicious red!
I love everything. And if I get some Flor squares, would you please come to my place and put them together for me? Left to my own devices, I'd never come up with such a fabulous custom design, alas!
I won't be so rude as to ask what you do for a living, but may I suggest a career in interior design, if that's not it?
Very attractive and inviting, very well put together.
It was a pleasure to view...

I just love the brave, bold lushness of it all. The best of the stronger color statements from the East. Very swoonable.
Looking again, I love the use of the red with striking black, and the light wood. Love the table, the grommet curtain, the thingy on the ceiling (at least from what I can see), but I HATE that wooden chair lol.
I just LOVE it. It's soo warm and inviting. I bet you throw a mean dinner party. Kudos to you, it was very thoughtfully planned.
Amy
hi,
the room is great. The table is amazing it looks like something out of colin cowery (sp?) dining room! Where did you get it?
