Why I Should Be the Champ:
"This contest was called "I've got Color," and i think out of all these (great) finalists, i've got the Most color going on (amount of different colors).
I wanted this room to be light, fun, personal, happy and entertaining. I got the "light" by using white, got the "fun" and "personal" from all the accessories, the "happy" from the actual hues, and achieved the "entertaining" by where i placed all the colors. Because the room is grounded in neutrals, your eyes bounce from color (or color block) to color and are never bored.

(now why i WANT to win? i desperately need a new rug and some chairs for other parts of my house and CB2 has GREAT stuff- plus if i do win- you can bet i'm throwin' a party, so i'll need a few more glasses too!)"

Whose Room I liked Besides My Own:
"I guess I'd have to say Turquoise's- not for the "style"- ie, Hollywood Regency, (I didn't think this contest was about "styles" or fancy design)- but because her colors were the complete opposite of mine- where i had white, she had grey, where i had brights, she had muted tones. Her room challenged my perception of 'color.'"

how great to see these new shots of the room (affirmed my decision to vote for you). beautiful photography too. . . WHERE DO I VOTE?
Striking! I love the photos, the pillows, the
colors, etc. You have my vote.
I don't think I can gush enough over this room. Maybe its my love of all the objects in it: the lamps, the credenza, the pillows, the orange wall stripe. Maybe its my envy of the natural light that reverberates against the white walls and floor (I myself am stuck in a cave of a 2nd floor apartment in Brooklyn). Maybe its just because Jon has pulled this together so damn well. The additional photos have solidfied my theory that this is the winner of the contest. I'm sold.
I vote for Jon in Irvine...but where can I vote. Where oh where?
I'm with Cindy. This is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Love the lighting, artwork, lamps, love it all.
You most definitely have my vote, though I do also love Ky's place. This room is so fun, and bright deftly excuted!
You've got my vote..and I usually don't go for retro looks ;-)
I love it! :-)
What I love about Jon's space is that the color is vibrant and well-coordinated, but it doesn't look as if someone chose a Color Scheme and then Designed around it. The "color scheme" rooms are impressive (and may in practice be a more reliable way to handle a tight budget), but I get a special thrill from the unstudied effectiveness of this one.
Oh you have my vote! brilliant.
I like them all kind of a lot, but for me, I think it was the detail still-life shot of the plate with the blossoms next to it, and those block things that really sealed the deal for me.
This room is absolutley fabulous. I like this room the best all the vibrant colors very fun and cool.
what the.....it's like playing ":one of these things is not like the other" over and over again. there's just no winning it this time though...it's a big trick quuestions this time.
just beautiful! these additional phtotos are fantastic and made my decision for me. i am voting for this room as my #1 pick because it is colorful, creative, i would love to live in this space, and i like that the walls are mostly white and it is the accessories in the room that make is so colorful and beautiful. i feel like every piece has a story and a history and i find this room to be comfortable and really unique and stylish. good luck!!
i was just so confused i couldn't even type properly!
Fantastic. Bright, wonderful, playful, and a room that is sophisticated, creative and fun.
Fabulous...Oh so Fabulous!!!
Fantastic! This room really stands out from the others. It is sophisticated, playful, and lovely! I love it in that retro/glamorous/swank kind of way.
I like the mixutre of organic colors, and their interplay with the man made colors. At the same, time the print designs mixes geometric shapes with the gestural forms of branches.
Absolutely beautiful use of colors and gives a sense of brining the outdoors in and vice a versa. You got my vote.
Just beautiful, Jon. The new pictures only add to my enjoyment of it. Still my favorite...
what i love about this space is that it shows you don't have to paint an entire wall, or do full on renovation, or go overboard with an extremely edited palette to enjoy a lot of color. This space utilizes objects and accessories as the statement, and that totally inspires me, as i am a renter and can't really paint the walls, etc... Plus it allows you to change things up simply by switching out something. I also love the unexpected-ness of some of these pieces- it really shows personality and individual style!
jon -- you've got my vote! it's a charming, cheerful, comfortable room that i would enjoy having in my own house. not being a professional, i also cast my vote with you because your room represents all of the things i am worst at -- combining patterns and colors, using colorful accessories, using a period of design without turning it into a "theme." maybe that's not the right way to judge, but it was the only way i could differentiate between the beautiful finalists! great contest, at!
Irvine? Are you sure you don't live in Palm Springs?
Yeah! What Cathy said!
Nice colors and details make this a winner! And the papasan looks comfy. Jon, was it a Pier 1 papasan? Somehow it looks stronger than the ones I've seen at Pier 1 so I'd be interested in hearing where you got yours, or if it was indeed Pier 1!
hi sue-
thank you for your nice comments- yes actually, it was from Pier one. at the time when i got it, they were the only ones that had a neutral cushion. but i guess Cost Plus (world market) has some too- they are suuuuper cozy....
Remarkable! The concept outcome really is worth the risk. I think what makes all these colors work so well toguether is the combination of patterns and textures, and what harmonizes the whole is the well distributed balance that counterparts the light that comes wide open from the big window into the white the background..it makes the colors pop-up.
It inmediatelly gives you a sensation of well being and happiness at first glimpse.
Congratulations!
I'm voting for Jon - he's amazing... I love all the little extras - like the shelf over the door - and the amazing color combinations - it all works so well. I'm an Interior Design Consultant and I love Jon's work - very playful. So California, too! We seriously need some more CA design in the Northeast - it's great! I vote Jon!
Jon - One question before I leave this page -- can you please tell me where you get your wonderful pillows? ~hollygirl
First I want to say that I really really love this room. Its happy, fun, and sophisticated all at the same time.
I'm finally moving into my very own apartment (no roomates) and I'm so excited to start from scratch. I would love to take many of these ideas Jon uses and apply it to my own place. Where do I even start? I, unfortunately will be an attorney by trade and though I can appreciate a fantastic place when I see one, I'm unable to do it myslef. I'm so overwhelmed. Any suggestions? Where should I even begin to shop?
hi hollygirl and hillit- thanks for the support!- even though the contest is over- i'm glad the room has made some people feel happy- i'm not a professional designer, but i do enjoy decorating.
hollygirl, i made half the pillows, and half i bought- i found some great ones at velocityartanddesign.com, and the fabric is really just remnants i found at the fabric store.
hillit- congrats on your new place- i suggest getting your basics pieces first, (couch, table, etc..) and if you're unsure, or prone to changing your mind, go with neutral colors, then start adding accents colors/pieces over time- don't ever feel you have to have your room "done". even mine's still a work in progress.
Jon,
Ilove your style! Did you used to live in Columbus and San Francisco?
hi kitty-
unfortunately no, i've always lived in Southern California-
jon - thanks so much for the suggestions :)
i think i'm going to do just that.
I really like the painting over the couch. Do you have the artist's name, please?
Gorgeous place!!!! I am soo jealous. Very well done. Not sterile at all!!! Fabulous!!
This is a true testament that modern (ish) designs with all the white can be warm as well. This was the subject of discussion when a South Loop loft was featured recently. Both had similar features and were modern design and immaculately decorated and clutter free. The difference is this one explodes with personality.
Hello!
I'm not really sure how i got to this site but it find it really interesting. I love the photos there so bright and colorful. I am a Huge fan of the 60's eventhough i was born no where near that time period.
