apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Flickr Finds: Fifi's itty bitty bedroom

Sparse living. Reader Fifi sent us a link to her Flickr set. Fifi has transformed a tiny 7' x 7' bedroom with a paint job, shelves (we love the window shelves), a corner desk and a bed lofted above the hallway...

Thanks, Fifi! We know it is difficult to take pictures of such a small room!

I love the room! The color, the shelves, everything! I just don't know if I can manage 2 feet from the ceiling though! :-) But it works!

Where did you get that lamp? I'm looking for a modern, yet affordable version of the arc lamp. Anyone have any ideas?

If this is in NYC it is not in compliance with the City's building codes. The minimum allowable dimension is 8 feet.

I love that your display items are beautiful and well edited for maximum impact. It never feels clunky or cluttered. That's a real challenge for such a small room. you did a great job

Dania has some nice stuff but you can't order online and they don't have locations in NYC! :-(

Fifi... I love what you've done. Where did you get that chair. Where can I find one like it?

Mason-it's on Astor place (look out the window). I'm pretty sure there are more than a few not-quite up to code apartments in that neighborhood. Great location + young people willing to put up with a lot = rental laws not enforced.

It is beautiful, though--I love the corner shelf/desk!

oops--make that St. Mark's place.

Check out http://whiteonwhite.com and look under lamps. There is a really nice, simply designed arc lamp for $175. This place really saves my design butt!

I also love the corner desk. I'm looking for something small like that to hold my laptop. Where did you get it from?

I purchased the arc lamp from Dania several months ago. It's made by the long-time lighting company George Kovacs and is available through numerous other sources, such as Lamps Plus - click my name for link. The base is solid marble, though, so shop around and make sure you account for shipping in the total cost!

Thank you so much for the compliments! I love my little room. You nailed my location. I just moved to NYC, so I was willing to sacrifice space for location.
My furniture is mostly craigslist and eBay finds.
My paint is Benjamin Moore Blue Daisy. I bought my desk from stacksandstacks.com. It's actually a corner shelf -- but plenty big for my laptop. I had to anchor it since the walls aren't quite at a 90-degree angle. It's very sturdy though. I'm sure it could handle some weight.
Thanks for looking!
