In our first Flickr Find, we're showcasing Pomegranita's stunning shots of her apartment, which she gussied up for her friend Jeena's bridal shower. Her Flikr pics are here.
With the words, "I love Martha Stewart," Pomegranita adds color, pop and surprise with these light paper decorations in her lovely, calm white apartment. Monamorena would really like to know how they are made. Pomegranita?

love it! So tell me about that coffee table...
Great place.
I really like the flickr finds idea. But why not just create an AT group on flickr rather than just tagging. Other blogs do this and it works quite well.
I think the coffee table is from ikea, painted white.
those are tissue paper flowers! we used to make them when we were young (many years ago)
I think that little side table might be an IKEA Fornbro table painted white (I'm slightly ashamed that I knew the name of that table without referencing the IKEA site...) Amazing how a little paint can spruce up IKEA finds. Now the table looks like an elegant little ballerina.
Pomegranita is so cute, I just love her blog. What a darling use of tissue paper - very elle decor chic on a budget - like that a lot.
My mother makes these things, she made them for my bridal shower. I've tried, but I think next time I should place a very angry cat on a pile of tissue paper for better results. My flowers, although intending to bring joy, merely take it away. :)
Pomegranita on the other hand - flower power! You go girl!

SERIOUSLY!!! The place is clean and that's all it has going. For Christ's sake, they have a halogen lamp in living room, the walls are bare, and there is no color on the walls. All in all, it is a very nice space, but this website is about design. There is no design here, excluding the wonderful work of the architect who designed the apartment. We want inspiration!
Jeremy,
As a webmaster myself, the plausible reason for not creating an entirely separate group for this purpose is because then, people can keep all of their photos together. A quick search through the tags is super easy and can actually lead to much more interest in your fellow ATers - their friends, family, outtings, other rooms in their homes that may not be tagged.
Heck :) You might even make a few friends ;) The sense of community provided by such a method is exponential, based on what a person uses Flickr for.
the place looks great, very festive!!!
BTW the table is from West Elm, however it's discontinued.
What a cute space. It feels so calming to someone like me who has clutter issues. I would have to paint the walls, though. Thanks for posting the pics! (I also love the coffee table.)
I would like to see pictures of Pierre's place.
I am one of the very few ppl on AT that likes white walls. First thing I liked about this place was the light grey seating with white walls.
Pierre is still awaiting inspiration so his place is not ready to show yet.
BTW, this place needs a nice big rug and some better looking floor lamps (you're right about that Pierre).
I wonder if this place is a rental or purchased. I also wonder where it is. It looks like a great space.
Wow. Hi guys. Didn't think it'd actually be picked up by AT but yeah... I did this for my friend Jeena's bridal shower. I added it to the stream just for the decorations, not for overall decor. Pierre Easy there on the bashing. I know the place needs work... it is so not up to par with what I really envision for the space but being that I live with three other people who aren't as crazy about spending money on decor as I am and my limited finances make it sort of a work-in-progress. Sorry that you were offended by my roommate's halogen lamp. :)
The instructions for those tissue balls are from Martha Stewart in her Spring 2006 Weddings issue (the article is near the back). Basically you stack 8 sheets of tissue and fold them up accordian style. Wrap floral wire tightly on the mid section and cut the edges into peaks. Gently pull each layer apart... eventually they'll form a ball.
As for the nesting coffee table, it's from West Elm from their winter sale last year. Both for $199! Great deal. The side table is from IKEA as previously identified.
(Hi Holly!)
Jaime Pup It is a rental. I live in Spanish Harlem. The building used to be an elementary school. A developer came through after the school moved across the street and turned all the classrooms into condos. The bedrooms upstairs are actually kind of short... ceilings up there are about '10" but it's great for me because I'm all of five feet tall! I think photos of my bedroom have already showed up here for the art contest.
I actually think the palce looks airy and light, but perhaps the French doors should be paint white as well. A little jarring in that natural wood color. On another note, I do find it annoying that the host made her guests take off their shoes. This is a party for someone else - why don't you lighten up and let the guests wear their entire ensemble? How embarassing if the guest doesn't have a nice pedicure (and this is coming from someone who has a shoeless house)
Why do you assume she *made* them remove shoes?
I used to be the only guy in an office full of women, and if there was no client there, I was the ONLY one who ever kept my shoes on!!!
radzook, do you know them?
Maybe because they're all close friends that they always do this in each others' places - without being asked to. Don't be annoyed on their behalf when you don't even know the deal.
Thank you Priya for satisfying my curiosity. I think you've made a great start with no qualifications required to explain yourself.
Btw, to me the French doors relate to the wood floor, and she did say this is a rental.
And jamie pup beat me to my typical "Needs a rug!" comment. :)
But I think the purpose of this post was about those cute party decorations, not so much opening up the whole place to critique and crticism. I do love how she used the overhead space to decorate.
And am jealous of so much overhead space!!!
Wait P2, what are you trying to say about women and their shoes? Don't you realize how hurtful, damaging and ignorant an innocent comment can be? Can you be more careful next time? I really expected better from you and am only trying to make you a better person than you already are.
Thanks Jaime Pup! As for shoe removal... we're Indian. That's just what we tend to do when we go to someone else's house. :)
i like white walls, in the right place, and I do think this is the place for it. I think, if it was allowed, i'd paint the upstairs loft area and doors a different color, maybe a dark taupe, but that's me. i think this is a sweet picture and it is very refreshing to see the bright pink and clean white on such a hot day. good choice AT editors.
Priya, are you saying that 10' ceilings are low?!? that's nice and high, and i'm 5'9.
p.s. i have to weigh in, lose the halogen up-light, you can probably find a lamp on the street that would look better. these should be banned from sale in the united states, in fact, i started a group to pass legislation. I know it's not yours, but tell your roommate it's kill'n your cool vibe;-))))).
I think the wood of the french door looks great, makes a nice contrast/complement to the clean white walls.
Great how a shot of color pops against the white. Nice tall ceilings, mmmm jealous ....
Oh that maent to read 5'10" upstairs. Low ceilings. :)
JP - If I had been drinking coffee, it would have spurted out over my keyboard.
i like spaces with white on white as well as large splashes of color, both can be done very nicely. this is a good example, i think, of good furniture being able to stand up on its own to make a place look great. and yea, as mentioned above, being a girl, i like to take my shoes off at every chance i get, so maybe other girls are the same =)
Those orb things are fantastic!!!
Im not crafty AT ALL! how do you make those?
I knew Priya is East Asian and that's probably why she would make her friend's guests take off their shoes. Nevertheless, it's a bridal shower, an actual event, and some people may not know the host or WANT TO TAKE OFF THEIR SHOES. I'd feel stupid in party dress without shoes. If it's a few friends, fine. But this is the guest of honor's guests. There may be co-workers or a boss(!) invited.
It took me like 10 minutes to find that halogen lights. You guys have eyes like hawks.
And I cannot believe that you have ceilings that are 5'10" high. I would have thought that was against code or something.
I have my shoes off at the moment.
Also, I fail to see how Patrick 2's comment could be construed as hurtful.
5'10" cielings! it must be just like that geico ad for "tiny house!" man i wish that show were real...
radzook--
jamie pup was only razzing me for some recent threads.
I HOPE. :)
Where are the bookshelves from?
I believe JP was being ironic....
Ivy,
Groups in flickr are almost like fixed searches for tags, they don't actually move the photos from a person's photostream. Personally I just prefer to add photos to a group rather than have to make sure I tag it with some phrase. Check out ones for blogs like Gadling, Chicagoist, etc. Gadling (http://www.flickr.com/groups/gadling/) does a photo of the day on the blog based on pictures submitted to the group pool. You can easily click on someone's picture, get to their photostream, then browse around their other pics.
Either way is fine, I just thought a group pool might be nice. It also allows for discussions within the flickr group, almost like little mini open threads if you wanted.
Jeremy
Yeah but P2, you were probably the only one who didn't wear high heels. Of course, I could be wrong.
Which is why I don't wear heels! This whole "shoe or no shoe" thing has SO seen its day here!!! Gosh, the other day, I had friends over after we'd walked around all day in the heat and I wanted to make them take showers before they sat on my furniture. THAT would be rude! :)
I really like your place, Priya--way better than when I shared with several other people!
my question for priya is how did you hang the tissue paper from the ceiling? fishing wire? tape? tacks?
Radzook: South Asian, not East Asian
Just another comment on the shoe thing -- I actually prefer that my guests leave their shoes on (unless shoes are really dirty, shoes are better for carpet than bare feet), but I have a really hard time getting people to do this. Taking one's shoes off at the door is considered the thing to do around here (I also don't like taking my shoes off in other people's houses, but I do it because that's the thing to do!) It could be that Priya's guests weren't "made" to take their shoes off, but did it because that's just what they do.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Priya's second comment indicates that it's a cultural norm for her social circle to kick off the shoes when they visit each other's places. They appear to be happy about it. So long as everyone at the party finds the practice normal and comfortable, why should any of us care?
And here I thought all the white was meant to be cool and clean and airy. It was working for me on that level, especially with the color from the decorations. Looks lovely!
I love love love the balloons in the chair. So unexpected! it reminds me of a big cupcake.
I am having flashbacks to High School Homecomings from these pics. We created thousands of these paper 'carnations' and covered floats and cars with them. Ours were made using typical Kleenex size tissues. These look like they are made from gift wrapping size tissue. It's a fun look for a shower!
as long as we are being ridiculous, at the far left of the picture there's a foot wearing a sandal (the rest of the person is cut off). So shoes or no shoes appears to be the guests' choice.
(But I don't see anything wrong with shoeless homes...it's the norm in many east asian homes as well.)
Apparently, not a popular choice with the host, seeing as how the guest's leg was promptly cut off!!! :)
I'm not completely sure why the shoe thing is such a big deal. I recently housesat for a friend who happens to be Japanese and I always took my shoes off when I entered her home. Usually she provides a pair of slippers to wear around the house.
Most likely the guests knew the host of the shower very well and expected to remove their shoes just like I pretty much expect it anytime I visit the home of someone from that part of the world.
Heck, I'd like to institute it in my apartment (once I find just the right shoe rack!)
Love the tissue paper pompoms. I made 60 of them for my wedding reception! They do have a very nice look. We used clear fishing line to hang them.
Here is a picture of the finished reception hall:

sorry!

AnneE - clear fishing line with what? how are they attached to the ceiling?
the reason i asked is because the last time i did something similar i used a staple gun. the next time i do it i'd rather not have staple holes everywhere.
thanks.
tia,
We had hooks on the sides of the walls that we tied the fishing line around. Then just strung it between them all at different angles.
If I was doing it in my house though, I would probably just use a strong clear tape and hang one at a time from the ceiling.
Looks like the bridal shower picture tied their fishing lines to banisters and stuff like that.
We tied our lines from the banister upstairs to a hook on the wall opposite and then used the floral wire ends that protrude from the tissue ball to wrap around the fishing line... thise was an easy way to make sure they were hung from the same height.
Miranda: the bookshelves are from IKEA.
Where's the couch from, Priya?
Laura I actually got it at Macy's two years ago... There are some really affordable finds there!
thanks, ladies!
