It looks like Vanessa has posted three color options for this wall on her
Flickr page. Vanessa shows a bright blue, green and red - all without the commitment of painting and re-painting. I vote for the red!
While a little test paint will be the truest measure of a new color in a space, this test is easy and pain-free for anyone with the Adobe Photoshop program. What a great idea!! Thanks, Vanessa!

Definitely the red.
the red... no doubt
red reflects nice warm tones on the skin, green reflects nice deathlike tones (can't speak from experience about blue). i'm just sayin, in case anyone is gonna see your skin in there.... go with red.
The red of course.....unless you want to change the accents on the bed.
and if you don't want to buy photoshop - i'm a huge fan of microsoft's new FREE paint program - on steroids! they call it paint.net and it does a bunch of photoshoppy things - just click on my name or go here:

Blue!
no contest, the red!
Red Red Red
BLUE !
I think the red may be a bit too much. If she chose the blue, she could throw in some blue accents here and there (like a blue pillow or a blue blanket UNDER the current one at the foot of the bed), and I think it'd be a better use of color.
Plus, any blue is more calming than a red (which is more alarming) and I'd think that calming would be the way to go in a bedroom.
Definitely not green. I think the red and blue are both possibilities, but they produce very different moods.
I personally love the combination of the aquatic blue with the golden wood floor and red bedding, while the red is less interesting colorwise but will give you a more 'va va voom' effect.
Oh, and the cream lampshades look better against the blue. (IMHO)
What about yellow?
I have that white bed, pink spread, those same hardwood floors in a room that opens into another room with that same red wall. I'm wondering how yellow might look.
Opinions?
I have yellow in my bedroom (B-M Oriental Silk, so a very soft yellow), and I really like it.
Vanessa, aren't you glad you asked?
What about green but not *that* green? Too...something. Dense? Murky?
I'm biased toward green b/c ever since I painted my br a lovely shade thereof (tho' a friend has dubbed it Gatorade Green, so perhaps it's a bit more neon than I realize), the room makes me so happy. Something about the vibration coming off the color just makes me smile. And it casts nary a deathlike tone on any skin.
I'd test some brown shades first.
Also, why not stripes or wallpaper?
Also, a sage might look nice...
The blue, seeing that the colors oppose each other on the color wheel, they provide a nice contrast. The red seems to be too matchy.
The blue. And put that red pillow out on the curb.
Ha! This bedroom actually belongs to Laura, not me (Vanessa). I posted these images on my flickr space after Laura asked which colour she should paint her bedroom:

I'm glad it was helpful!
def not the blue! i like the red but a yellow might look interesting. the red looks warm and sexy.
I tend to pick blue over red in most situations, based on my own personal color palette...but in your case, I'd say RED.
Red red red!! No question. :)
Hi Apartment Therapy (its laura - my room). I was actually a bit afraid of the red (a bit much for me, too dramatic plus i dont love red and felt that a pillow i did not even like was driving that color selection) and decided to go with a green (a brighter, pastel green - cooler than the one above). The red pillow did in fact get put on the curb (or the salvation army truck), and i added two off white and one straw pillow for a more neutral bed (the straw pillow also brought in the color of the baskets). I ditched the awful lampshades and got off white tubular ones. I removed the art over the bed and got a huge canvas for which i am in the process of trying to find some shiny wallpaper (any suggestions on where to find this?).
hands down- the red wins
I'm all for the blue. Red is nice, but it's too matchy with the pillow.
If you're married, pick whatever color you like. If you're single, though, go for red. Much more flattering to the skin ;-)
Too late but another vote for blue!
I'm sure the green looks great! I'm a fan of the way red flatters skin but I don't like the red wall in comibation with the bedframe, bedding and lamps. I felt like that gorgeous frame got lost in the red. I'm surprised so many people loved it. (And this comes from a girl who used to have a blood-red living room)
I ususally hate blue but thought that the blue worked really well here as well. The green was my favorite.
And I think everyone looks better by naked by candlelight anyway. haha.
I am not good with color so here's a question. Why does everyone say green is not flattering for skin tones when green walls predominate in tv and film? Perhaps because it is flattering? (Law and Order consistently has the same green over and over and over. I have become obsessed with noting green walls in media and in my nonscientific survey greens predominate.)
Laura,
Can we see some after photos?
:) Vanessa
How about a soothing luxurious brown, like a chocolate, or even a pale capuccino? Play off of the red and the floor...
Red is the color of passion and romance. It's also the color of aggression and restlessness. Green or blue are good choices. Go with a shade that'll put your mood into whatever state you want to be in while in that room. If you want to feel relaxed, go with lighter shades of either color. If you want more vibrance, go with darker shades. Hope that helps.
a technical question: is there a way, in photoshop, to grab the exact color of an online paint chip, say, and use it as a fill in your image in this way?

YES... grab the paintchip off the website, and go into photoshop.. take your little eyedropper tool and just sample the color of your choice. you can double click on the color pallette in the tool box to get the color builds...
YAY! I'm glad you picked green. That was my pick over red. The green is quite calming, looks great against any brown, and ties in well with the baskets! You should bring in the straw more, maybe a wall hanging or a rug right in front of your bed. Also 2 runners would look great on both sides of the bed.
My vote is for the green. Have you ever tried to sleep in a red bedroom? You will be breaking out the Kilz stain cover and repainting the whole place in no time.
the blue is the best
