Flickr Finds: Yee-Hsee's Re-use Nursery

10-10-nursery.jpg

Smart solutions. Yee-Hsee put together a nursery based on old Ikea furniture left over from bachelor days and tagged it on Flickr for all of us to see. The crib is the IKEA Gulliver (not quite the white "baby prison" they thought it would be)...

The wall candy dottilicious and the walter applications were realtively easy to put up. The problem with the walter applications is that it's permanent so you really have to be sure of where you've placed it. Our niece and nephew have both tested out the bilibo and julian (in the room) and love them both! —Yee-Hsee

Beautiful nursery! One question: if you are breastfeeding, can I ask how the Poang chair is working for you in that regard? (Comfortable? Easy to position the baby?) Many thanks--

Great nursery. Dwell bedding right? My only issue is the TV. Why a TV in the nursery. To watch during nighttime feedings-not a good idea at all. It kind of ruins the feel of the room. And also why not move the crib away from the door. Every time you check on the baby (and I know there will be many times) you run the risk of waking him/her up.

Thanks for the comments!

Naomi, my wife says that with the pink pillow cushion on one of the arms, it's quite comfortable and SHOULD be easier to position the baby. She likes the Poang chair better than the gliders she tested out. We'll find out when the baby gets here!

Hi dnd,
Yes, that is Dwell bedding. As far as the tv is concern, it's more for our little nieces and nephews right for when they come over (which they do quite a lot of- that's why there's an XBOX there too). Clearly, when the baby gets here, they won't be in the room when she's sleeping :)

The reason we put the crib next to the door is so that we can peek in to check on her, instead of walking across the room to see her (at least that's the thought). We'll see if that works...Thanks for the comments

Looks great. That's the exact color green/yellow I want for my kitchen. Do you happen to know what brand and color it is?

Thanks!

Hi Yee-Hsee:

I hear you on the crib placement but you'd be surprised how just the click of a door lock can wake a sleeping baby who at the same time can sleep in a stroller as you walk through midtown! But it will probaly be a good 6-8 weeks before you have the baby sleeping in the nursery alone so you will know what kind of sleeper he/she is by then. And may I suggest a boppy pillow for breast feeding. Nothing beats it! Even a great chair or glider. I wish you all the best.

Naomi - I nursed two babies in a poang and it works well with a boppy or other nursing pillow. Otherwise the wooden arms can get a little uncomfortable. It is deep/wide enough that you can get comfortable and sit cross-legged, or however you want. In fact, we did have a glider that we got as a gift and especially late at night it was way to upright to sit in comfortably. There was no way I could recline and doze in it.

Dan,
The color for the nursery is Costa Mesa (Behr), if not Behr, then Glidden. No matter, we got it from Home Depot. Another yellow color that has the same hue is Behr's Italian straw. I have some pics of it on my Flickr site (Kitchen set). Hope that helps.

dnd and Christy, thanks for the boppy pillow advice. We will definitely look into it!

My one year old's nursery looks very similar to yours! We have some dwell crib bedding in robins egg blue, the same Ikea chair and ottoman that we relocated from another room, and the same wallcandy dottilicious transfers!

I found using the boppy for breastfeeding was invaluable, although it's a lot easier for one person to arrange themselves and baby if you're on a couch or bed, so you can have the boppy next to you when you sit down with baby and arrange yourselves. Having to pick it up off the floor with baby in hand is a little difficult, at least in the early days when you're inexperienced and find one handed holding of baby scarily difficult.
