Flower Box Award: 28 Commerce Street

As the summer wears on and the days get humid, I'm starting to notice a lot of very lush flowerboxes around the city. Plants are opening up, giving us their last showy burst of growth. This one on Commerce Street beckons with thick colums of potato plant, a classic flowerbox ingredient, dripping down toward the street. Delicate pink Begonias have their own dripping quality, although much more modest in their display.

Flowerbox Slideshow

It is one of the sweetest little houses in the West Village, with a plaque in dedication of William Henry Appelman, "who restored this house he loved so much." I think Mr. Appelman would be pleased with the way the house continues to grow, and for the neighbors who love it so much. skgr
