apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Flowerbox Awards: 83rd Street

This week we received a submission for a flower box award on the Upper East Side from Matt, an Apartment Therapy reader who works at the Metropolitan Museum and passes the “nice townhouse fronts” on his way to work every day. This one is on 83rd Street.

See Matt's slideshow

He and I both like that they’ve used gourds in front and flower boxes on the first floor. Mix it up, why not? I also like the way the color of the ornamental kale compliments the purple hue of the bricks. Tying corn stalks to the front fence is also a bold move worth noticing.

It reminds me of growing up in the country and picking these items out of the dewy garden when I was a kid in Northeast CT. Just without the dirt and the worms,” says Matt. Take a closer look; I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some dirt and worms nestled somewhere in those gourds. Don’t underestimate the nature of our beloved concrete jungle. Wow. I would love to pass by this house in the morning with my coffee in hand. Very nice.
