Flowerbox Special: Narcissus Bulbs at Day 10

12-22-bulbsfinal.jpg
Last year we featured the naughty narcissus bulbs and the devilish amaryllis bulb in January, but this time we are off to a quick start in December. An annual tradition in our apartment, growing these winter bulbs is a joy to behold. Each day a little more happens and you become an optimist that the good will always overpower the bad.

We're working on our pics (which are not the best). There are also a few days missing, but the growth has been fast. More pics added each day.

looks great! this is a favorite tradition of mine as well, in fact, i just checked on our paperweights (still in the phase of storage in a cool/dark place until we have more root growth) and they are doing great.

so much fun to watch.

Not just for looks, oh, the fragrance from those narcissus! A wonderful winter tradition, especially if your windows have been closed against the cold so the air inside is somewhat less than fresh.

Just went to Smith and Hawken on West Broadway yesterday and they have a wide variety of winter bulbs for forcing.

I bought Paperwhites and an Amaryllis at Target a couple of weeks ago. They were $4.99 each. The Amaryllis has started but my Paperwhites are a bit on the slow side, but I love doing these every year. I need to get one and bring it into the office and try to grow one here.

As a person who has the Thumb of Death when it comes to plants, it's a fun thing to watch your success with those lovely stalks. VERY nice progress photos. The lighting is beautiful, too. Looking forward to the blooms.

Now that I'm back in NYC and can see this with broadband, it's more like watching a stop-action nature film. With dial-up, it was almost like watching plants grow in real time.
