Chocolate brown walls and warm style abound. Jumping off the C train at Lafayette Avenue, you will see the distinctive YU sign across from the public park in this trendy little corner of Fort Greene. YU is downtown Manhattan style improved and enriched to suit the mellower, warmer lifestyles of the Brooklynati. Selling a mixture of vintage furniture of asian, scandinavian and mid century origin along with new designs by Jonathan Adler, Dwell, BOOM, Jack Spade and others, Ludlow Beckett, the owner, has created a groovy, sophisticated personal look that is hip and easy going at the same time.
While many stores only sell accessories, YU sells the complete picture (see slideshow). You can check out the store as much to buy something, as to see what color they have painted their walls if you are thinking about doing something bold at home (chocolate brown and orange lately). For a small store, a tremendous amount is packed in. In addition to furniture, YU offers bedding, lighting (new and vintage), Caldrea cleaning products, pillows and the ever present candles.
Problems? This style is not for everybody, and when something is done up this nice, you aren't getting Craigslist prices. Aside from the many affordable smaller items, we saw a lovely walnut coffee table for $725 and a lamps for $185. We always maintain, however, that if it's well made and if you love it, its worth the price. Treat your home to a few really nice things. MGR

The prices can sometimes be on the higher side but fair and the very cool people that work there have a great selection of vintage furniture and new goods. It's worth checking out as a great resource for unique pieces.
The owners of Yu have a great eye, and always have interesting collectibles and accessories. They really have their finger on the pulse of the diverse tastes and metro aesthetic of ft. greene and the surrounding neighborhoods.
A great place to find that perfect gift for any and all occasion; and such pleasant staff
Yeah- the store is great and Ludlow (one of the owners) is very friendly and knowledgeable. The one drawback is that the space is tight; they try to stuff too much onto the floor. Otherwise, it's a great mix of new and vintage pieces with a warm, modern feel. Also, the prices are reasonable relative to the product. We definitley need more home stores in Ft. Greene!!!
this store may not be for everyone..but those with taste will love.
Fabu Fabu Fabu!!! Ludlow is Fabulous, the store is Fabulous, and I am FEEL Fabulous whenever I go there!!! An absolutelly decadent array of candles, incomparable furniture and home accessories, DIVINE personal accessories (I got the most chique Jack Spade bag there)- I feel like Im in Soho and I live a couple blocks down the street! Oh and the staff...Donovan is the quintessinial Jamaican hottie!!! I would buy anything, ANYTHING he sells to me!!!
Congratulations Ludlow!!
Glad to see things are going well!
Continued best of luck with the business - and with the parking...!

This store is full of a bunch of over priced JUNK! The owner, Ludlow can be moody. There is a guy named Jeff who works part time who is a nightmare...he is rude and seems under the influence at times. Can't someone open a reasonably priced store in Fort Greene with NO BITCHY ATTITUDE?
Fort Greene deserves better. Someone should open up and put this place out of Business. Yu used to be a wonderful place to shop. What happened? The owner takes himself much too seriously.
