Good Questions: Where's This HGTV Murphy Bed From?

2-2-murphy.jpgHello AT,

On HGTV episode HSSBS #113 - Little Home, Big Results, they showed a wall bed on rollers. One side had exposed shelving the other was a bed. It rolled out of the wall and around 180 degrees and reinserted into the wall unit. Where I can obtain one of those wall units?

Thanks, Ray

Dear Ray,

Good Question. With a complicated action like this, it might be a Flying Bed. We haven't seen this apartment, but for more info it looks like you should contact the homeowner and architect:

I know this one! The bed is from Clei (www.clei.it). I looked for one like it as well, but haven't been able to find a US dealer. I shudder to think of the price.

Here is something similar. I would hate to see the price of this thing too!! Although all of their stuff is really cool. Click my name to go to the site (if it works - if not I'll repost).

After that episode ran, I contacted the name listed for that apartment inquiring about the couch. Instead, I got a reply about the wall unit--here it is:

The bed/shelving unit is exported from Europe. Below are some locations where you can find the bed that you are inquiring about. I have also attached an article featuring Mr. Wedlick and his residence for you or the retailers to refer to so it will be easier to explain. Hope this helps! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any other questions that you may have.

I saw one like this in the NYC store, Design & Comfort. Brace yourself... the price is $5,000+.

I found something similar in the US (not as sleek):

Design & Comfort is no longer on West Broadway. When I saw the unit there 4+ years ago it was over $5000. The price has jumped from about $3000 since my previous enquiry.... due to "exchange rates". They were kinda snooty about it too, and wouldn't let me snap a picture of it.

I had a fancy murphy bed and shelving unit made as custom cabinetry in my place. The price was astonishingly high ($11,000) but I was not able to find workmanship or a design that was better despite quite a bit of searching. If you have a small place, and want to entertain, a murphy unit is worth the money if it saves you from having to upgrade toa bigger place.

Pixie,
Do you still have the article on Mr. Wedlick? I couldn't find it on your post.
Thanks,

I am trying to buy wall beds or flying beds or the mechanisms for my apartments in Sofia and Axtopol, Bulgaria but although I have searched the web for days, have been unsuccessful. Any ideas?

Hi, I've been on a quest for a few months
to find a wallbed that doesn't make me
cringe.

Here's a link to my favorite,
it's minimalist and modern and I imagine a (big)geometric painting affixed to the front by day.
The store is in the U.K. but the design
could inspire a custom made rendition.

Fantastique quality, design and prices are unbeatable!($1,195.00 Ca.)

This bed is offered by Zoom-Room.com out of Miami. My company, Naples Custom Cabinets & Millwork, introduced these beds to the US about eight years ago and we, by far, have the most experience with them. They're not inexpensive, but they do offer a very unique application, especially in limited space.
