ReUse. We were tipped off to designer, manufacturer and idealist Jonas Hauptman by a reader who has been enamoured of Hauptman's lounge chair because it is "very comfortable," supports "head and neck" and the fact that "it's made from reconstituted aspen tree leaves/flakes (basically waste) and adhesive."

Indeed. Jonas Hauptman is in a mission to make "green" modern seating, using a "reconstituted wood manufacturing process that is used to produce shipping pallets." It is a great idea, and apparently produces seating that surpasses both plywood and plastic in terms of strength and formability.

Hauptman is creative and just getting going. You can tell that his line of chairs ($675-$1175) is just the beginning, as he recently added 6 color choices and tables to his mix.

He mentions working on supplying park benches to New York City and employing a new wood composite called Palmstrate (Palm with soy adhesive), all of which is very exciting. Just don't forget to keep it beautiful! (Thanks, Todd!) MGR
