Better Nests and Gardens. Recently a client was looking for some beautiful pillows for the new living room we had put together. If I had only known about John Robshaw.

A painter by training, John Robshaw, 37, has built a remarkable niche by drawing inspiration from India and Southeast Asia and translating everything he has seen into textiles and bedding that will funk up your apartment, but not clash with your cool, modern or even traditional decor.

A fine artist by nature, Robshaw studied the trade routes to learn about traditional techniques and to "find out where they are still alive." He operates a workshop in Jaipur, and of his textiles he says, Its like youve been on the world tour with me, he said, but without the bad planes, food poisoning and sunstroke. (NYTimes)

Prices are high, but bedding won't kill you like buying leather club chair will. Pillows run from $80 to $325, sheets start at $120 and blankets at $400. His wares are available through his showroom as well as at Erica Tanov, Auto, ABC Carpet, John Derian, Layla and Bark in Brooklyn. (Thanks, Dante!) MGR

I know of this Asian/Modern Store in upstate NY that sells stuff like this. It's a great little store with amazing merchandise called Global Home in Jeffersonville, NY. Their website has only a fraction of what they have in-store, so you may need to call to ask. www.globalhomeny.com
