Congratulations to Jimkk, who won last week's giveaway, New Closets from Astech Closet.

Item: Four Bags of CD's - Estimated at Over 400, along with misc. DVD and Video Tapes
Description: Okay, this is a weird one, but we found four HUGE shopping bags of good CD's (and a few DVD's and tapes) in the hallway from the fashion company that moved out and we thought it would be genius to creatively recycle them. We've already gone through and ripped a few to our iPod, and now they need to find a better home...

They all look like hip new bands along with a bunch of biggies like Clay Aiken, Kayne West and Sarah Mclachlan . It's a bit random, but there are a ton, many look like promotional, record label giveaways and they're all in excellent condition.
We tried to take pics that showed what they looked like. We'd like to find a good home, someone who will put them to good use and REQUIRE that you come to our office and pick them up yourself.

I would love to win seeing as I'm probably the only 23 year old in the world without an ipod...so I'm still needing CD's. Pick me yay!
view lisser's profile
Why not? Whatever I don't need will get passed on. Or converted into someone senior year art project.
view hmr's profile
Please pick me!!! Believe it or not, I still have a portable CD player (and use it!). I'd love to contribute to the CD-sharing club here in my office also (cure to the ban of internet radio). Thank you!

consider this an entry on behalf of your local library. for others who are ripping their collections- please consider donating your old movies and CDs. You get a tax deduction, and tons of people get to enjoy your donation! Using the library is a great way to reduce unnecessary consumption.

Hey this is great- someone broke into my apt and stole all my ipods on Saturday night so this would be a great reason to buy myself a new one!

um, hi? cd's? yes. yes, i still love 'em.
(although erica up there is right: the library might need them more than me.)
view katiebug's profile
Yes! I keep losing CDs and their conversions through my own and various electronic malfunctions. It would be nice to get some more music in my life.
view newinny's profile
I'm with erica on this one, but consider this an entry from your favorite college library in the NYC area. (If you would take entries from all areas, I'd have entered for my own college library, where i happen to be employed) Often college libraries and media centers get neglected.

I've recently shed my apartment of pile of promo CDs from my own collection. (from the photo it looks like some of them might have been freebies from record labels.)
This is more a note to others who are thinking about getting rid of their own promo CDs than free ones you've found. Technically if they are promo CDs you are NOT supposed to resell them nor give them to other people. Many promo CDs are watermarked and the "owner's" name will be connected to them if they somehow end up in ripped MP3 form on the internet.
Donating non watermarked albums to the library is a good option. But since I'm totally paranoid about getting reamed by the RIAA or a label so I cut my CDs and then drop them off at techno trash events in the NYC area. The next one is on 23rd street near Tekeserve at the end of this month. They'll take them w/ a big haul they send to GreenDisk and your CDs and cases are then recycled.

Me...because I just moved to New York and still have all my stuff in Los Angeles in storage. I'm going to need the CDs to play in the stereo as I decorate my new 1 bedroom apt.

Speaking of cds, what can you do with the jewel cases, if you just want to keep the cds (in cd albums)? I hate just throwing all that plastic away. And they're not recyclable, even in SF.

Lolax- you can send your cd jewel cases to GreenDisk.com, or find a local store who does collections for them. You could also donate empty cases to your local library, those that lend out CDs are often in need of non-broken cases.
