I just moved with my boyfriend to a brand new railroad apartment in Williamsburg. Every one of his boxes were marked 'Misc'. Lots of wires, tools, books, paints, duct tape, cds, papers, are all stacked up on long tables in our 'studio'. This weekend we're building desks and thenâwe'll need to get organized quick! It's already been a month, at least the stuff is out of the boxes now, but it's everywhere. Ayck!

Help! My mother's adorable little frame house is in danger of becoming a Collyer's mansion if she keeps accumulating stuff! Okay, maybe it's not quite that dire, but seriously, her house is cluttered. (It's not helped by the fact that she only has two small closets!) My mom has a really cute house and great style but you can't always see it through all the stuff that has been accumulated over the years. Please help my mom, Clutter Cowgirl!!!

What a pity I dont' live in NY but in the Black Forest in South Western Germany. We need decluttering as well especially my husband who has double as much stuff in his own room as the rest of the family in the whole of our condo.

The story goes like this: sentimentalist/collector meets cute fireman who only keeps what he absolutely needs. Said couple moves into cute, historic but tiny 1BR. He doesn't understand why I need so many quilts and how perfect those pagoda lamps will be someday; I rue his lack of vision. Conflict ensues. Enter one small baby and one big dog and the apartment begins to strain at the seams....

i have never in my 30 years lived an uncluttered life. my parents are book hoarders, and i've inherited that gene. i also save a lot of stuff 'just in case'. i feel like the walls are closing in on me as the clutter gets closer and closer to the center of the room.
it's probably pretty easy to get rid of other people's clutter, because you don't have the sentiment for items that they do. i hope the clutter cowgirl does more organizing than throwing away, because throwing away is easy when it isn't your stuff.

Please choose me. I am a semi-pack rat use to my own space but now sharing it with my boyfriend. It would be nice to give him a formal neat and clutter-free space of his own.

My older sister might say I am "challenged" in the area of organization. I took 1 of the 2 closets in my studio apartment and turned it into an office but it really just looks like another "dump" zone. I really do throw things away but but some how - some way - a little bit more seems to appear. Having you share your expertise with me would truly be a prize! Thank you.

I know you can't come to where I am, but it would be wonderful if AT could give you a column.
1x a week during the cure, 1xmonth, otherwise?
As everyone (probably) knows, I'm clearing out the basement. I've gone from impassable to decent in three weeks, but I'm getting into the difficult stuff, now.
I need to know: how do you convince someone (like a husband) to get rid of "nice" things he nevertheless never wears?
How much of the children's artwork/school stuff/sentimental clothing/toys/books etc., should one keep?
How long can one collect things and hold onto them for a project before it becomes clear one isn't ever going to do it? How does one let go?
Decluttering is mostly an emotional issue--not an organizational one.

Volatile combination:
Husband works from home, doesn't clean or seem to be able to find the wastebin, and has a MASSIVE record collection
I tend toward neat freakiness & feel claustrophobic and unable to relax when surrounded by visual clutter.

Moving into small one bedroom with a LAWYER aka paper hoarder. Ever organize a lawyer's office? Their idea of organizing begins on the floor and involves endless piles of terribly colored, poorly structured legal folders. My lawyers home is no different. Fear I will drown in a sea of papers before long, but don't want to become the nagging ninnie whose no fun and only wants to clean.
Is it wrong to say, "its me or the papers, buddy boy"?
Help, pretty please!
