Thursday Giveaway: EcoForms All Natural Pots

6-19-giveaway.jpg

Product: 3 EcoForms Nova Flower Pots (ebony)
Value: $12, but really...priceless

Description: Since it's garden month, we thought we'd give away some house favorites that we've given away each summer in our Flowerbox Awards posts. These pots are NOT made of plastic. They are made from renewable grain husks, which is long lasting, durable and lightweight, but WILL biodegrade in our lifetime. Check this out: Only after they have been discarded into a commercial or municipal landfill facility will decomposition take place. They then break down into nutrient-rich organic matter with a PH value of 7.0.

EcorForms Pitch:

Say good-bye to ugly plastic pots! Sweetwater Nursery LLC is happy to introduce a smart alternative: EcoForms™. Perfect for home and garden, these all-natural pots are made from by-products of renewable and sustainable crops. They contain no wood or petroleum ingredients, do not deplete natural resources, and decompose in the landfill. Suddenly, gardening is both easy and guilt-free.

These products are available in a wide variety of natural colors and shapes to complement every décor. Strong, durable and lightweight, EcoForms™ are ideal for plants that need to be moved often, lasting five years under average conditions. Even when exposed to constant high humidity, their water- resistant surface remains clean and smooth.
Manufacturing Process

EcoForms™ are made from grain husks (primarily rice hulls) and natural binding agents (starch-based, water-soluble binders and biodegradable additives). No pollutants are used or produced at any stage of the manufacturing process. And because all scraps are recycled in the production process, no materials are wasted. Only a small amount of water is used in the binding formula, and the organic pigments are environmentally friendly. Heat and pressure cement the ingredients to produce EcoForms™.
Operations and Factory Information

Sweetwater Nursery maintains a close working relationship with our manufacturing partners. The EcoForms™ family-owned manufacturing facility is operated with extraordinary efficiency and workmanship. The working conditions at the factory are clean, efficient, and respectful of the employees.
Qualities and Specifications

• EcoForms™ are suitable for all climates, all environments and all applications where plastic, clay or wooden containers are used.

• EcoForms™ are designed to last 5 years under normal usage.

• EcoForms™ are resistant to freezing and thawing damage.

• EcoForms™ have excellent heat insulating characteristics resulting in outstanding root development and overall plant performance.

• EcoForms™ have proven market performance and consumer satisfaction.

• All of our planting pots promote perfect drainage with holes and feet that ensure proper air movement.

• Special order containers designed to last 6 months to 8 years are also available.
Biodegradable Performance

EcoForms™ will keep their shape and clean surface until the end of their functional life. Only after they have been discarded into a commercial or municipal landfill facility will decomposition take place. They then break down into nutrient-rich organic matter with a PH value of 7.0.

I need more room for herbs! I was growing basil and cilantro in the same pot, but they both want to get a lot fuller than they can while they're sharing space. Please give my herbs more room. :-)

How I'd use this "Flokati Rug," eh? Well, that is a funny looking rug! So I guess I'd start by filling it up with dirt and laying down some mesculin seed to make it nice and soft on top!

or maybe I'd add some more tomato plants to my container garden... mmmmmm.

At my work they use a lot of plants for display purposes. When the plants are "no longer needed" they THROW THEM AWAY! Seriously. They put them in the trash. So I always grab them out of the garbage can & take them home. I have lots & lots of rescued plants in my apartment with room for more! I would absolutely love some EcoForm pots!!!

They only last five years... There are clay pots that have been kicking around my family for generations.

And they won't break down in a landfill if they're in a trash bag, which is how most things get to a landfill.

I'm skeptical about the claim that these pots will somehow know to start breaking down when they get to a landfill but not before. But I would use a pot like this to grow plants for my chickens: they need portable plants that can be taken away from them to recover on a regular basis. A pot I don't have to worry about them eating (unlike plastic) or breaking (unlike ceramic or terra cotta) would be a great thing.

My mother was a very generous and selfless person, even when she had nothing material to give. When I moved out, she gave me a tiny jade plant. Today, almost ten years later, that jade plant is so healthy and robust that I regularly give away potted cuttings to friends and family, just like Mom would have. One of my big goals for the summer is to grow my own herbs (basil for pesto and for tomato and mozzarella salads), mint, cilantro, etc. I would love to have some pots to put them in (I've heard mint can spread like a weed in a garden and should really be in a pot). If the pots were large enough I'd grow tomatoes (home-grown always taste the best in tomato sandwiches).
