My best friend has an Oreck and she LOVES it! I currently have an 8 year old Hoover Windtunnel that's on it's last legs so I would be a very, very happy camper if I won this Oreck. My home is 90% carpet and my 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels shed quite a bit so a vacuum that really sucks would be heaven-sent!

My vacuum is trapped in the closet. Literally. It is so big and bulky that I can't lift it out of the awkwardly shaped closet in order to actually vacuum. I never would have put it in there, but my spouse decided that since HE can maneuver it from it's covert location it has to stay there. On the plus side, this means I rarely do the vacuuming. :o)

Give me a vacuum with a bag any day. Why fill a container with dirt, then remove the dirt from the container into a bag, when the dirt can just go into a bag! Also, the outside of vacuums get dirty, just try wiping down the "baroque" exterior of a Dyson as compared to a functional design like this. And don't get me started on the transparent dirt chambers on most vacuums now! They only look good on the store shelf!

No no no, it can't go to anyone but me. Seriously. I have 4 children who stay at home with me all day, as we homeschool. We are ALWAYS working on projects, making meals...there is glitter, flour, paper scraps, and more mess than you can imagine on the floor here, that the one year old LOVES TO PUT IN HIS MOUTH (he just showed me a small piece of bark dangling from his mouth, the dog dragged in). It is a sad, sad day when I try to explain to you HOW EXCITED I'D BE OVER A VACUUM CLEANER! But, I would be over the moon. Seriously, my current vacuum does NOT suck.

OK -- here we go.

I was a New Yorker until last year, when my spouse and I moved to Pittsburgh. We were always renters (last stop was Carroll Gardens -- hello, Brooklyn!), so when we purchased our house here we went small, about 1200 sq ft. I continue to read Apartment Therapy NY often for good advice on small space living.

All that said, the vacuum wouldn't be for me. You see, I'm the Executive Director of a great nonprofit here (www.unionproject.org), and it's been a tough, tough winter. We're coming out of it, with new grants on the way, but in the meantime we've had to let our cleaning staff go...and along with them, their vacuum.

So the Oreck would be well used and loved by a great organization far from New York, but with a New Yorker (born at Coney Island Hospital) at the helm.

And we would be ever so thankful.

My old upright went out in a blaze of glory (well, more like a huge depressing cloud of smoke) and things haven't been the same around here. It's replacement, a remarkably picky canister vac, refuses to pick up most things; it's driven me quite mad, actually. What a delight it would be to have an upright again.

i'd like to get that oreck. i have a dyson and it's heavy and klunky and can't vacuum under chairs and tables and it's difficult/impossible to vacuum stairs.

It's like you all are reading my mind or something - I've been back and forth between buying a dyson or the oreck. Please put me out of my misery!

My Eureka hasn't been a bad vacuum, but it wasn't the same after I loaned it to a neighbor. It has its fits and starts, and no amount of field stripping, checking or cleaning the various parts seems to help restore it to its former grandeur. It works, but just as a shadow of its former self.

And then came a few weeks ago, when my daughter had a sleepover. The good news was that she admitted to me that they had spilled "a little" popcorn and had vacuumed it up.

The bad news was that "a little popcorn" was about a full microwaveable bag. The collector bag was full, the main rigid intake tube attached to the vacuum was full....no suction at all. Lots of cleaning and getting popcorn out of crazy-to-reach places.

And the suction is now worse.

So, yes, I could really use that Oreck. And a lot less popcorn in my life.

Who ever wins this will be in heaven. i would love to win one for my newly wedded daughter, but, I am not the luckiest one! But, I do have one and LOVE IT!! Plus they even do free yearly check ups and tune ups, clean it up and customer service is excellent! It gets out the pet hair like it is nothing! And the aroma tablets just make the home smell so fresh! And even the little canister vacuums that I got with mine...Is as powerful as the vacuum, and when you switch the hose to the back...It becomes a leave blower that I use to keep the sidewalks clean.

I've used many vacuum over the years, from Electrolux to Hoover to Rainbow, but I've never tried an Oreck. This would be perfect for my bachelors' house full of cats!

I purchased an Oreck about 7 years ago. It is the XL model and it's red. It came with a canister vac and a 'car' vac. It's ultra light- 8 lbs. is what's advertised. I haven't regreted the purchase and haven't looked at buying or have another need to purchase another vaccuum. It is wonderful. I have had only one problem and that was the belt had worn out and I didn't know how to replace it. You will know when to change the bag because the vacuum gets heavy. I know the winner will enjoy it!
