Carole Smith Updates Pyrex with Ceramics

When we first saw this bowl, we took a double take. It was shaped like a Pyrex bowl, but that surely wasn't a familiar Pyrex design! Designer Carole Smith actually remade a vintage glass Pyrex bowl in ceramic! She cast a vintage glass Pyrex bowl in plaster, then slip cast it in clay, fired it, glazed it, and then finally decorated it with ceramic floral decals. Whew! She uses the same process for other thrift store finds including mugs and cake stands. And in her spare time, she make tiles!

ha, love the reinvention of the pyrex! fantasmic. overall, this is my idea of intelligent design, putting one's craft to good use, and doing so very beautifully.

lovely showcase of your tiles - earthy, worldly, alive yet neutral. me likes.
