Dear Apartment Therapy, My husband and I fell in love with the Atlantico table pictured, but at $1800, it's more than a little out of our price range. Any suggestions for a substitute? Things that are important:
• central support
• all-wood construction
• pull-out leaf if at all possible
Thanks!
Unfortunately, it is going to be difficult to find exactly what you are looking for in your price range, if you want something new. All wood construction is expensive and rare these days — so your costs are going to rise with this request. Also, by adding a request for an expandable leaf,
I would be looking for a vintage/used piece, but if you are willing to make a few compromises, be certain to check out my previous post on High & Low Round Tables — it uses the Atlantico Table as an example of the "high" but also has some recommendations for similar, less expensive tables.
Can anyone think of any tables that meet all of the criteria?
ROUND WOOD TABLES
• Norman Cherner Round Table is $1800.
• Prouve Round Table is $3000ish.
• Risom Round Dining Table is less than $1000
This version from Room and Board is similar and somewhat cheaper at $1290:

These are a little different and with no leaf, but cheaper.

This site had your table on sale...

CB2 has the teepee dining table for just $369. The legs are solid oak but the top is glass. Perhaps you can have a custom wood top created for less $$ than the Atlantico version...or wait for De La Espada's online sample sale.

Get the atlantico on sale from bluehouse, they are very good.
Atlantico's wood is absolutely stunning and this design is gorgeous.
The only thing comparable are the cherner tables, but that is even more expensive.
Style wise, the CBS teepee comes close, but it does have a glass top.

A halfways decent woodworker could replicate that pretty easily, I'd guess.
