Hello AT,
I've always dreamt of having the Noguchi Table in my home and now I'm finally ready to take the plunge.
The problem is, I can't decide on which finish to get for the base.
The choices are black, walnut or natural cherry and I love them all! What would you do?

My living-room is a work in progress, but here is a "before" photo. As you can see, my couch is chocolate brown and the floors and window blinds are cherry.

Not shown is a low media cabinet (see Avion BDI photo attached), which is also cherry with smoked glass fronts. My accent color might be aqua like the pillow, or off white like the Frenchie, but I'm still deciding on that (either way, the Frenchie stays).
This is a major purchase for me and I'm nervous, so any guidance you can offer would certainly be appreciated and would set my mind at ease (perhaps even help me unclench the credit card at the register!).
Thank you! Lourdes
Dear Lourdes,
You can't really go very wrong here - it's a great table - but we'd say that your room has some dark tones and some light tones and you could use a medium tone, so go with the natural cherry.
In addition, we feel that too many different kinds of wood - unless it's intended - create some loss of focus. So, stick with cherry.
Anyone else??
I agree with Maxwell about mixing too many different kinds of wood. I think the cherry would look beautiful in your room.

I've been looking at one too - except I have a cherry/brown waxed hardwood floor. What would you think...a darker wood like black? It will sit in front a camel-coloured BO design DIVA 5-seater couch/lounge.

I have to agree about not mixing wood... it almost always turns out bad. That being said, I also have to advise about not going overkill on wood unless you want to go for the log cabin look.
That being said, I think the black really accentuates the shape and proportions of the base. Although I like the way wood looks (and gives a piece warmth), I feel that any sort of wood grain or texture would detract from the purity of the form.
Take my advice with a grain of salt, I'm often wrong but I personally prefer purity of form to dominate over texture/colour... your preferences might be different.
My 2c.

Black - Classic.
Walnut - Trendy - Which is unfortunate.

I'm a huge fan of cherry, but I also worry that you'll go overboard with the wood. If it's the last wood piece you intend to buy, and there aren't too many others in the room, I'd say go with cherry. Walnut is definitely out. Black will always go with everything and there's no chance of overkill, but the cherry wood is so lovely.

I definately agree with cherry for your room.

I think too much of the same tone (the cherry) can get kind of blah. I would go for the walnut, which is a nice contrast to cherry, and would compliment the chocolate couch. But that's just me, and you really should choose the one that you really love!
