Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Cheaper Version of this Rug?

10.17rug.jpgHello AT,

I just saw this rug in the Pottery Barn catalogue, and while I'm normally not a Pottery Barn kind of girl, it has me drooling over it. It has the drama of a zebra print rug, but the more muted brown and ivory tones will go perfectly with all of my decor. The only problem is, I'm a graduate student and and therefore broke. Do you know where I can find a cheaper alternative to this gorgeous rug?

Thanks! Luciana

Have you considered handpainting a canvas floorcloth? Pretty easy to freehand this design, and the natural color of canvas would duplicate the ivory base pretty effectively.

This might be silly, but here's a 5x7 cotton rug for $68; maybe you can dye it with coffee or Rit:

I got mine from West Elm - because, like the PB one, it's colors were muted and not SO starkly contrasted. It's more of a crewel work type, and has lasted me a year with no end in sight.

I am also obsessed with this rug! I went to the Pottery Barn store on a whim and found a floor sample on clearance - I got the 8x10 for around $300. It was in great shape and just needed a couple spot cleanings. I couldn't believe my good luck! I have loved the rug ever since and it's my favorite thing in my house . Definitely check out the clearance section at the store if there's one near you. Good luck!

I have that Urban Outfitters zebra rug and I love it. It gets dirty really quickly but you can spot clean it. It's not plush like a carpet but it is perfect with hardwood floors. It's a very cheap way to figure out if you like that look in your apartment.
I recently decided I needed a little break from the look and rolled it up and stored it in my closet, it takes up very little room in there.

Flor sells a cowhide print, which is not really at all like a zebra now that I'm typing this, but the color selection is great (to the trade, otherwise you get your choice of one color). It's gorgeous in person, easy to clean and still nothing like a zebra print!

Homedecorators.com has a Zebra rug in brown. I bought a rug from them about a year ago and love it.

Overstock and Smartbargains have great rugs and great prices and they are shipped to your door super cheap. I stocked up on several flokati rugs when I moved into my last apt and I will buy some more when I move into my fab new junior 4!

Thanks for the responses everyone!

The West Elm one is really nice...I may get that, but I'm concerned it looks more "animal print!! POW!" than the PB one. I wish there was a store nearby me so that I could see it in person.

joycouture - I am so jealous! I will be checking my PB asap but I think you were just very lucky. Do you know how long they've been carrying this rug? (i.e. Can I expect it to go on sale?)

I don't know if I'm too late for this post (I've been a reader for a while, but new to the 'community')

I have the rug from Urban Outfitters as well, I love it.

Here are two suggestions from Target:

$100 - http://www.target.com/Zebra-Rug-Collection-Black/dp/B000NG5XDU/sr=1-1/qid=1192715052/ref=sr_1_1/601-4946710-3648918?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3AZebra%20Rug&page=1

More $$ - http://www.target.com/Zebra-Rug-Collection-Multicolor/dp/B000WCQMGW/sr=1-4/qid=1192715196/ref=sr_1_4/601-4946710-3648918?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3AZebra%20Rug&page=1
