A Source For Similar Stainless Steel Kitchen Storage?
Good Questions

10-26-stainless-dish-rack.jpg

Q: I saw this plate rack on a website, and am wondering if you could make a post to get people to ID this rack, or recommend something similar?

Editor: This is a great-looking storage piece — I'd love to have one, too! It looks like it originally was designed for commercial use, so a restaurant supply company would be the best place to look for something similar. I imagine this is something that the right restaurant supply source would be able to custom fabricate.

Does anyone else have suggestions or advice for Ben?

No idea here, but I would like to know as well. That's a really cool find!

Evidently it's made in India... at least according to this Kitchn post from last year. Unfortunately, I don't see it on the Conran website anymore.

Yes, they are from India. Both Conran and Anthropologie used to carry them (~$175) but neither does anymore.

Hi!
I remember seeing this on remodelista, so here are the links:
http://www.remodelista.com/posts/tse-tse-kitchen-drainer
however it doesn't seem to be listed on the Conran site any more. I think you will have to call them, maybe track down who they bought it from.

Best of luck.

Well, if you check out Remodelista, you'll see that Tsé Tsé makes a very similar drainer (and where to buy it). If you check out the Tsé Tsé site, you'll see that they actually have one shaped like the Conran's one (they may even have been the source of it).

When I lived in India I saw these in the kitchens of many very modest homes I visited. They were placed directly over the sink and served as drying rack plus storage (note the drainage holes on the shelves, where bowls, cups, etc. would be placed upside-down). There, they are considered very basic and utilitarian and hardly chic, but I agree that, transported here, they lend a nice 'industrial' look. I'm sure they cost FAR less than $175 there (more than a year's wages for many families), but of course one must factor in transport, etc. If I were going back there, I'd ship home a few of these, for sure!

I've seen these in Indian stores in Jersey City (Newark Ave) and Edison. They go for MUCH less than $175. I think the particular store I am thinking about on Newark Ave is all the way at the end, across from Bengali Sweet House. If they don't have one right then, let them know what you're looking for, and they will probably order one for you in their next shipment.

I think they are great and confused that some think $175 is too expensive. Here people spend that for a fancy meal or more for shoes or a sweater? The material and work alone make it worth more in my opinion.

Does anyone know of a good housewares store in Jackson Heights? Wondering if they might have it there...

It's way too small for a commercial kitchen! It would be easy to get a welding shop to put one together, though.

Found the place in India. Damn. This is why my Fiance calls me "Nancy Drew". I have requested a quote and will report back...

It is very similar to the gorgeous Tse et Tse product, for sale here.

On the site, it says that the Tse et Tse product is not available at this time. For 283 euros, just as well! Will be interested to see what I Love Upstate (aka Nancy Drew) comes back with for a quote from the other place... and what the shipping charges would be!

Anybody check M & Co? (according to Remodelista, they sell the Tsé Tsé version)

http://www.mcandco.us/

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the European prices -- the US prices are always much lower (even for things that originate in Europe).

I love these racks, and look forward to what Nancy Drew comes back with ;)

Also, these are my new obsession, and i'm trying to figure out a way to build one on the cheap, but without the doors, behold, the Finnish drying rack/closet

I'd love to find a US seller of the drain shelves, from what I gather the shelves are as common as closetmaid shelves in Finnish hardware stores
