Q - What chairs would go best with the Prouvé Gueridon Table? I live in a 600 square feet open square studio and my furniture is modern but I am not a student of modern design — what I know is just from reading interior design magazines & books the last 6 months and looking at design within reach, crate & barrel and vintage stores...

How about this chair?
Risom side chair (5th picture gives an idea of how it looks at a round table):

Or this one?
Shelton Mindel wood side chair (3rd picture shows lovely various wood tones):

I just bought a table with similar lines:

and have 6 black Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chairs as well as 4 chrome Harry Bertoia chairs (which will normally be in another room but will be pulled out when we have more guests) I'm hoping it all goes together well!
You have a beautiful table - stay simple so as not to fight the design.

How about the Panton chair, for a bit of modern pop?

Prouvé's line are always in the industrialism side. If you don't want to go towards the standard chair from Prouvé, then an Emeco Navy chair would be a safe bet.

or pick one from here: (LOL!)

I agree with ARobin: the Arne Jacobson series 7 (especially) and Bertoia's side chairs will look great.

i just love prouvé. and if i had that table i would probably pair it with Marais armchairs (preferably in yellow) because of the form of the legs.
there are two options, one with armrests and a slimer one without. i think the marais a (without the armrests )would be better

Thanks for all the comments. I live in boston and am going to try and sit and as many of these chairs as I can. I am a sucker for comfort though. does anybody have any recommendation for mushy, i.e. padded chairs? - although even my design-lacking brain is saying 'no, a padded chair will not go with this table!' i have sat on the eames molded plastic arm chair & the eames DCW and thought they were comfortable but didn't think they went with the table.... All of the above suggestion sounded grooy - although I'm curious to see what anyone else thinks of the Panton chair??? :) I will post with my progress. Love this sight!

thanks for all the suggestions i think i will prob go with 2 white eames molded plastic chairs - now i am searching for a super comfy lounge chair to put my feet up and read/watch movies that will be at the opposite end of the room but along the same wall.
it is fun planning - actual plunking down of cash will not be until ~sept/oct so i have time to live w/t my unfinished space & change my mind....
best,

now, i am rethinking the whole thing and may not go for the table because i want chairs that can do double duty and be very comfortable (i.e. down seating). i found a modern wing chair at crate & barrel that i am looking at..... that could also be used for reading and movie watching...
