Good Question Follow Up! Upholserting a Coffee Table

Amanda sent us the results of her question being posted: Good Questions: Upholstering a Mission-style Coffee Table?Apartment Therapy, I finished my table this weekend (along with new tile). I thought about the removable cover that dolly suggested, but I didn't want it moving around. The top is outdoor canvas so it's durable, just in case people put their feet on it. I might end up using this as a bench instead of a coffee table, but it works either way. I followed the tutorial you had posted: How To: "Ugly" Coffee Table into an Upholstered Bench. I like the way it turned out, and I'm even ok with the mission-style slats. Thanks to everyone for advice! Amanda

Looks like a changing table.

It looks good, for what you did to it! I'm not a fan of mission style, but you have made it work. It would make a nice entry bench, with a place for shoes underneath. Thanks for sharing the results!

jeffnyc - I agree. It might have been better if it didn't look like it was just a cushion on top - might have been better to let more fabric drape down.

I think it looks nice... I think the changing table feel is because of the hard edges on the foam. I would have used thinner foam & cut the edges all around to a 45 degree angle and then pulled the fabric tight so it curved all the way over the edge.

Not a fan - should have left it as it was.

Stark white mission style = Visually at odds. I think it's tough to make something like this work without seeming cutesy, and going for a clean, modern look with those bones is a very big challenge. A black or red upholstery might have helped. The choice of buttons is also a little strange to me- a little too much going on stylistically I think.
Personally speaking, I would keep tinkering with it- there's potential there, but this doesn't look quite "done".

Thanks for posting this. I'm getting ready to do a similar project and appreciate the suggestions. It's harder than it looks in getting it to appear 'finished' instead of just a cushion glued to a table. LOL!
