Good Question: Where Can I find a Good Guide for Painting

2004_7_question mark.jpgWe give up. That's it. So many good questions are coming in that WE would like to know the answer to, that we are going to run one a day. That's it.

Last year, Real Simple put out what I thought was good guide to painting your home. It included tips on how to manage the process, what to buy and lots of neat techniques. Now I'm ready to paint, and I can't find my copy of the magazine! Do you know where I can find that issue or can you recommend a similar guide? Thanks, Donald

We have always recommended the attractive, simple painting guide that Martha Stewart gives out in her painting section at Kmart. It is nothing complicated, but it does give you some good tips to make the job easier and cleaner. MGR

I've had amazing luck just emailing Real Simple and asking them for content or a reminder of what issue a particular article is in. They are much more helpful than I expected!

Your local library may have actual physical copies of the magazine, but most libraries also have subscriptions to databases (such as ProQuest) that index many magazines, including Real Simple. I found the full text of the article in Pro Quest (no pictures, though) using my local (Seattle) library's website. Other databases may have PDFs of the full article or you can use this citation information to find a physical copy.

The secret to a good paint job is prep work. The taping takes forever but is worth the effort. Just make sure the score the edges with a razor so the fresh paint doesn't peel off with the tape. After all the tape is removed I take a small hard bristle brush (think art store) and fill in remaining uneven places.
