Good Question: Where Do I Find a Good, Small Sofa?

question mark.jpgThis is a question that we have often puzzled over, and not yet found a reliable answer. Last month we recieved a great deal of help with our own sofa (Quest for Sofa), but this takes it a step further....

Where can I find a good, small sofa for my New York City apartment? It must be less than 76 inches long and 36 inches deep, and I don't want it to look like a love seat.

We will add that small couches of low price and high price will be welcome, but they must viewable online and readily available. MGR

It's all in the name, my friends. Try the Eames Sofa Compact - H 35" D 30" L 72.5". Great looking, classic clean lines and available at DWR or other Herman Miller retailers.

I found one at Jennifer Leathers. It is a bit longer than your rqmts (79inx33in) but the great thing is that the sides/arms come off so it is very easy to move in/out of NYC apts. I have a VERY small door, and it fit without a problem. Great price, too. Look on page 2, the chocolate leather sofa ($599!) http://www.jenniferfurniture.com/circular.php3?session=f7747ecaa556ecd6cb20d544a26a2cb8

This seems like the obvious choice, but have you looked at Klippan at IKEA? In black leather it actually looks really nice. My boyfriend and I were hesitant at first, but now that we've got it home it looks fantastic. Comfy too!

We also looked at the Corbu stuff at DWR, but it was too pricey for us.

Whoops, I had links in those, but I guess html coding isn't allowed.

See Klippan at: http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=12&productId=19126&langId=-1&parentCats=10114*10296

The lovely Hans Wegner Daybed from R 20th Century on Franklin Street is a nice choice, but unfortunately it JUST misses your specs -- it's 77"x34". Oh well! Maybe the versatility of the daybed is worth the extra inch. (If those links don't work, the picture is at http://www.r20thcentury.com/images/seating/CO300b.jpg)

May I suggest CB2's Zoom sofa..."Va-va-voom. Vespa. Smart Car. Zoom. Cleverly scaled to make room in small rooms, but maxed out deep to seat. Sleek, chocolate (and red) linen shapes, Italian-inspired curves. One opens up a small space, two trend loft." $699 76"W x 37"D x 31"H (1" too deep?)
