Hello AT,
Do you know a good resource for ordering steel work tables? I am thinking about buying one to use as a dining table, but have had trouble finding tables without a lower shelf. This is essentially what I'm looking for, but about 30% more than I'd like to spend.
This is close as well.
Thanks!

J--One good place to start if you're going for the utilitarian look is the restaurant supply district on Bowery. Bari is the the first place that comes to mind, but there are tons of others. For something more upscale, we defer to our readers... PSM

Not sure the price would come in under DWR, but perhaps try the Terrence Conran Shop.
I've had a lot of custom stainless steel work done by American Circle in Williamsburg (with another branch in Bowery, I think). Ask for Mr. Charm 718-302-5798, Fax 718-302-0786, L train to Lorimer.
They recovered 18 kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts, 2 custom backsplashes and a custom-designed sink for under $1,300.
Bring them a sketch or picture, your measurements, and pick a grade of staniless and they'll do a quote on the spot.
Not sure this will work for you. But on ebay I noticed there are ebay stores who claim to specialize in building stainless steel countertops and they can supposedly build custom sized pieces of sheets that go on tables, countertops, backsplashes. May be something to check out.
I recommend them so much I should start getting commission but Room and board does custom table tops. They do carry stainless steel. check out the website roomandboard.com
Global sells the standard ones you've seen but I'm pretty sure lower shelf is removable (it's definitely adjustable)... might be worth a quick phone call to them to find out for sure, 'cause the prices are great.

You can check out Sonrisa Furnture...
http://www.sonrisafurniture.com/
but their prices (for vintage or new) are still in or above the DWR/Quovis price range.
There is also a stainless steel table at WilliamsSonoma.com (url too long to cut and paste here), but it looks to be bar height.
Has anyone had any experience reinstalling stainless steel countertops from one location to another? I have come by some cabinets w/ss countertops coming out of an institutional installation, and hope to reinstall them in a residential location. Any recc of good installer/fabricators who might be interested? Thanks, Paul
Prep Tec systems cam manufacture you a table or indeed anything else for that matter in stainless steel. Also they are working with granite tops and stainless steel legs for kitchen breakfast bars and tables the look brilliant and are really affordable. Ring 0044 161 761 5214 ask for chris.

There's a really nice table at Costco that I just saw for $99. I'm not sure how you will find a table without the bottom shelf, because it is for support. I had an 8 foot stainless conference room table in my old company and it seemed flimsy without the bottom support. It was purchased at a restaurant supply store in Van Nuys, CA. I'm looking for a 48" round stainless table myself and think it will have to be custom made. There is also a company called Pearce Stainless (try google) and they have a lot of really nice products and can custom make just about anything. Good luck in your search...I'm a stainless manic myself...can't have too much.
I have been searching myself. If you are in the NY area there are restaurant stores on the bowery. Just found a website:
www.boweryrestaurantsupply.com. My old office used to have them. Think a 30" x 60" table is less than $300. They can customize it for you also.
Just saw that costco table in the store. I think I'm going to buy it for my kitchen. Cannot beat $99. And it seems sturdy as well. What sucks is that the two bar type stools/chairs I want at crate & barrel are $139 each! crazy crazy. lol
The best place I've found is equipmenthouse.com. check out this link:

this is like one of only a handful of places that i've found that doesn't have the shelf underneath (same as what I've been searching for). the only problem may be the 36" height. I think if you want true barstool height, you need 42", but maybe you can find some smaller barstools.
