Perfect room for a floating desk! Use your runner to conceal cords running from desk to outlet. Switch the blinds to something softer and more inviting, Roman shades or sheer panels. You're lucky to have such a bright space!

Depending on the views outside the windows, top down bottom up shades will allow you control both light and privacy.

You don't specify what the actual problem is, or what you are seeking.

Too much light? Lack of privacy? If so, it would seem that the existing blinds would take care of those concerns.

Lack of warmth? (Your location/climate is not specified.) If so, window quilts could help. Too warm? Turn on the ceiling fan.

Lack of wall space for hanging art? If so, perhaps a mobile, or free-standing sculpture.

Open the blinds.

Uh, what kind of help do you want? Do you need suggestions for window treatments? Storage space? Furniture placement?

Curtains. The horizontal blinds make it too busy.

I would reposition the desk so you are facing the door while sitting, leaving most of those windows behind you.
Most people would kill for all that natural light.

I agree with Roman blinds (probably with light blocking ability so you can see your computer screen) and also re-orienting your desk to float so that when seated in the chair you can face the door. Those mini blinds give the feeling of a cage.

You don't specify what your problem is, but:

Curtains, both sheer and heavier to block the light as needed, and an area rug to make the floor less... bland, move the desk so you're facing the door, as others have suggested.

I am SO jealous of that room. I would never ever close the blinds, or leave the room so long as it was light.

But if this were my room, I'd find a large, simple square rug in a light, neutral color, move the desk to the center of the room so it's facing the door, replace the venetians with simple linen or bamboo shades (curtains would be too much fabric), leave them open all the time, and take advantage of all that light by filling the room with leafy green plants.

there must be some kind of view for those massive windows to have even been created...

i like the floating desk in the middle of the room idea.
i'd get a decent sized area rug and try to face the desk towards the best view possible.

maybe toss a bunch of plants or large decorative vases around the room.

you have zero room for wall art, so you have to start with the ground for decorations.

definitely don't clutter too much around the windows.

I see why everyone is jealous at first sight, but windows on three side plus what appears to be (but surely can't be) skylights, you must feel like you're floating in a fishbowl with blinds.

TBH I think what you need is to fake-up a solid wall. Because of the position of the door I think the only side you can do this on is the one on the right hand side of the picture. If you put up panel curtains (Ikea do patterned ones, which would give some visual interest) you'll still get a diffused light and will be able to access the windows for security. And it won't look too bad from outside.

I think you should move the desk away from that front window - I see the blind right in front of the desk is closed, so you must feel very on display there. If you put up the panels you can then reorientate your desk so that your back is to this fake wall and you face the door, which will be a much more relaxing set-up.

I think you should put semi-sheer curtains on the remaining windows to soften up the look and still keep some privacy. I think you should, if possible, replace the door with one that has a solid panel on the bottom, as currently it's the only piece of uncovered glass in the place, giving you a clear view only of people's feet - which must be quite disorientating.

A low piece of storage furniture (no higher than waist height) in front of one of the other windows would give you somewhere to display decorative objects including, yes, several plants - although I would love to see a very large plant on the floor in here. And I also think you need a visitor's chair and a coatrack to make the whole place look more welcoming.

I had the same thought as farmhousemoderne. It's hard to tell because I can't see what the rest of the room is like, but I'd float the desk so that the chair has its back to the back window.

Ditch the desk and take up indoor gardening.

that I'm unable to keep the blinds open. Window views are of a busy urban street and annoying neighbors. I appreciate your suggestions. Susan

It seems that, if this had been done, a lot of well-meaning but ultimately irrelevant comments could have been avoided, and a lot of time saved.

Try blinds that move bottom up and top bottom. You'll be able to leave the view obscured while working and still have some natural light.
