2005_1_3_question mark.jpgHello AT,

Does anyone know of a place that sells 50s retro lampshades? I need one for a table lamp and another for a floor lamp.

Thanks, Mary

Straight ahead question to which we don't have a ready answer. However, good places to call or look would be:

Not sure what kind of '50s you are going for, but check meteorlights.com. They have some very nice authentic look stuff.

There's also a vintage furniture/knick-knack place on First Avenue between 9th and 10th streets (don't know its name)that has a good selection of vintage lamps and loose shades.

Not sure what exact type of shade you mean, but do a search with the words "fiberglass" "lamp" and "shade" -there are a lot of companies making repros.

Hi, I'm Rob from Meteor Lights in San Francisco. We make custom 50s fiberglass drum lampshades, and retro modern lamps and pendants, too. You can get our shades at Ugly Luggage on Bedford in Williamsburg, or on our website at meteorlights.com (but you won't have to pay for shipping if you buy 'em off the shelf at Ugly Luggage)(sorry for the shameless plug...)

There is a great online place called Deadly Nightshades...they have the best prices, and you can even order a kit to make your own !

Re. Meteor Lights - I bought s shade from them last year and it is FABULOUS. I'm a cheap b*&^d, and this was more than I've ever spent on a lampshade in my life (around $80) but it was absolutely worth it - it's become one of my favorite things in my home. Yay Meteor Lights.
