Good Questions: A Similar Nightstand?

3-23-bedside-table.jpg
I've been hunting for the right bedside tables for years, and I think I've finally decided on the look I'm going for. The only problem is that I don't know where to find it! Can one of your resourceful readers enlighten me, please? Yes, there are a lot of tables that have this general shape but I'm looking for something very close to this one. Thanks so much, Carey

I'd bet it's either a vintage piece or one of those pieces that are sold at the designer showrooms to the trade only.

You could always have something like this made by a local craftsman...

It's a delightful bedside table. I love how it covers all your needs yet still has style.

The image is a stock photo I found doing a search on Google images for a bedside table. I believe the style is considered Shaker though I'm not sure. Perhaps I could get pricing from a custom furniture maker. The Ikea one is fairly close but I'd like to get something a little nicer. On the other hand I'm seeing nightstands for $800 (?!?!) on a lot of websites so I'd like to keep the cost to a reasonable amount. Thanks for your suggestions and if anyone else has ideas please keep them coming.

Carey - I've been on the hunt for the perfect nightstands but I've finally given up and going to ask my best friend's uncle build me a pair. He's retired, bored and talented. If you're near Seattle, he could build you a couple, too!

CS - So tempting but I'm in Chicago! I need to find a bored, talented old man to make me a nightstand : )

I just received the Pottery Barn bed and bath catalog (late spring 09) and there was a night stand that was a pretty good match. If you want one like the one pictured go to an antique warehouse or consignment stores. Add coat of paint and you'd have one pretty close. I too have been after night stands and I found 2 going with the antique store route. Good luck! :)

You might be able to achieve the same look by taking the middle drawer out of a nightstand and painting the inside to match the outside.

Carey,
Not quite the same but how about the Mayfair sidetable from Darryl Carter at Thomasville:

There is a leaf that slides out above the drawer.

Riley,
That sidetable is GORGEOUS! I'm afraid our bedroom is too small for those, though. Going to peruse that collection to see if anything else would work. Thanks for the suggestion!
