Good Questions: Alternatives for Closed Storage?

9-19-sussex-moser.jpg

I've fallen for DWR's Sussex Tall Credenza With Drawers (above, left) but can't afford its far from within reach $4000 + price tag. I also can't seem to shake Thos. Moser's vita nine drawer horizontal dresser from my brain (above right), but that's an obscene $7k +! Any ideas for comparable pieces? Has anyone had luck with giving a design to a cabinetmaker? Thanks!

What about the Thomas Moser chest? Does anyone have suggestions?

ebay search "american of martinsville" title and description. it may take 1-3 months but after shipping and refinishing you'll get the same look for under a grand, with luck under $500.

they usually go from florida to nyc with a stop at a refinisher and an unbelievable markup.

Try lowering your sights a bit...

There are tons of fabulous pre-owned credenzas available in the NYC/Brooklyn area - just search eBay for "Credenza" and see what comes up.

A cabinet maker could definitely make the them made for less and much less if you are willing to go to a veneered wood and no dovetails.

I hate to be a showoff but my husband picked one up off the sidewalk for free last week near Spring Lake. With a matching headboard & bedframe to boot! The bedframe requires a bit of hacking as its about 2 " short but with a couple of 2x4"s and some sandpaper and wood finish, our beach shack is in business!!!

I have been searching for the right cabinet to house my TV and ipod, speakers, etc. I decided that I have to spend more than 500.00-800.00 because I want a real piece of furniture, not Ikea or CB2, West Elm. I want a piece that I can have for the rest of my life, much like my George Nelson pieces. I have had a hard time finding the right piece for function and in size. This small company makes beautiful furniture and local, solid wood, great detail but priced well. They will do custom sizes if needed.

Pompanoosuc Mills, www.pompy.com, makes some furniture pieces that are similar to Thos. Moser furniture, but nothing quite like that particular dresser. They do have their own line that's trying for the same effect (Belmont) and the bed is similar, but not the dresser. But maybe you'll find something you like there.

Hey Guys:

I'm also looking for a credenza/media unit to house my TV and audio components, but would like to get something with glass doors at a reasonable price. Any more suggestions?

Thanks,
Jhon.

jhon, try homedecorators.com - affordable, nice styling for the money, pretty good selection. I have a 4-door glass door credenza from them which has held up well. All require assembly, but at the price, who cares? Also check out their outlet store for even better deals!
Good luck, let us know how it goes!
