Good Questions: Alternatives to Kartell's Icon Lamp?

Longtime reader suzy8track has a question: I love the look of the Kartell Icon hanging lamp. After reading some reviews, I'm hesitant to get one. Many people complained of it scratching very easily, and that it was very noticeable when the light was on. Are there any cheaper alternative versions of this lamp that won't break the bank and won't make me cry if I scratch it? The particular one that I'm interested in is the orange one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The scratches come from cleaning it with Windex and other harsh products. I have a FL/Y Icon lamp and it doesn't get scratches if you clean it with the right product. Kartell sells the one I use, it's also good on any plastic or polycarbonate item, like a Louis Ghost chair.

I clean mine every two weeks and it has no scratches on it at all.

Would it scratch from dusting?

I seem to remember there was an orange version at Ikea a while back. Maybe someone's selling it on Ebay or craigslist.

Eve, thanks for posting the link to the cleaner. I'm definitely going to invest in one, now that I know I won't scratch it. This lamp is gorgeous and I haven't been able to find anything else comparable. I'll be sure to keep Windex far far away from it.

We have several of these lights, I just use a feather duster on them

This red lamp shade is $25 at Kiosk! It was also featured in the past year in the NYTimes.
