Hello AT,
Can you provide any information regarding the adorable black and white animal prints that Maxwell and Sara Kate had displayed in their home on a recent Oprah show? One was of a monkey and the other was an octopus. Thanks for your help.
Susan

Dear Susan,
Here's the scoop: We saw these two images in Kate Spade's travel store on Thompson Street (that is no longer). They were framed and on the wall. We wanted to buy them, but they were not for sale and must have been by some designer and possibly antique. We took a picture with our camera and copied them in black ink, giving them to Sara Kate for Xmas last year.
We've since seen that the basic images have been used by Kate Spade in one of her fabric patterns, but we still don't know the origin. If we did, we'd sell them. They are lovely. You should see the other two animals.
Does anyone know more???
Tell us your secret, Kate!!!
This is really weird! I saw a guy selling these exact same designs on the corner of St. Mark's and 1st Avenue last night, outside the WaMu bank branch. I think they were on wood, but I'm not sure. I don't know if it's the handbag knock-off artists branching out or if someone else is emulating Kate Spade (or Maxwell)...
the graphic designer for Kate Spade is Paulina Reyes- click my name for the link- I don't know if she sells individual prints, but there is contact info on the website.
Thanks, Jonathan! Do you think she created the images or took them from somewhere? I should send her an email...
Maxwell, if you scroll through, it's on one of their baby blankets. I would guess it was an in-house design (and PR's) since it's on her web site and all. HTH.
Maxwell,
If you contact her, will you post back with the scoop?
Thanks!
:]

Hi Paulina!
Your section was one of my absolute favorites at the ADC Young Guns exhibit and in my typical fashion, I forgot to note down your name! Glad to find you here on my lunch break website hopping...

Looks like Holly at decor8 has a post today (http://decor8.blogspot.com/)
about Paulina and Kate, providing some nice images and the same link that Paulina gave us this morning. Nice synchronicity!
There is often a gent selling what must be knock-offs on the corner of 6th street and avenue A. I've never stopped to ask about the price, but I bet they are cheap!
Don't buy the knock-offs!!!! we sell the really nice originals at the broome street store, they are well priced, you just have to ask the manager for them, since they have them on the back of the store.
I just saw the monkey in the new pottery barn for kids catalog.
I have to agree with Paulina. I hate to criticize the G-Rs. But maybe because I am a writer who knows what it is like to have her stuff plagiarized, I would be very unhappy if someone copied my exact design. Using it as inspiration is one thing. Making an exact copy is another.
