apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Good Questions: Beautiful Leather Pouf/Cubes?

12-11-hannawerning.jpgHello AT,

We have just redone our living room and are looking for two small ottomans/poufs/cubes to provide seating which won't take up a great deal of room. Many of those that we easily find are very modern and antiseptic. Were could we find more interesting versions that are pouf-like and possibly have a little more eclectic/world flavor? (ps. our wallpaper is shown at left).

Thanks, JoAnne

Dear JoAnne,

This is a great question because while seating cubes are very popular right now, there is not a great variety. Here are two places we would look:

Calypso Home have a few versions of very stripped down, leather Moroccan style seating. Def worth a look.
Dosa Leather Poufs are super nice
This is interesting...
Lazy Dog Cubes look really comfortable!

Anyone else??

Are you married to the cube? Have you been to an Apple store lately? They have these fantastic ball seats that I fell in love with. They feel like an extra-dense version of those fancy memory foam mattresses. I found them online...click my name. They come in a variety of colors.

John Derian has leather poufs ... I haven't been to the store myself but I've seen them online and they come in a variety of colors.

www.johnderian.com

Go to imports and then to moroccan poufs ... $225 each.

I'm in DC but the store is in NYC.

Liorra Manne in Soho had some sweet ones. There's also a Moroccan home store on Orchard just north of Delancy that has nice ottomans.

i think anything under 20" is too short for regular adult legs...and very few of these are that high, your guests will end up feeling like children being so far below everyone else and then like old guys when they try to stand up. high is better.

Sorry to hijack, but we received a couple of Persian Gabbeh round ottomans from my girlfriends mother recently and would love to use them for just the same purpose however they are unstuffed. Anyone with ideas on where to get 'stuffing'/foam, etc? I dropped by Economy Foam and Futon but they didn't seem to have anything apt. They are round and about 40 inches tall I'd guess, maybe 25 inches around.

This cube from Target has the yellow and aqua colors in your wallpaper. The subtle pattern would be a nice complement. Plus is $19.99 (clearance)!

This amazing footstool (poof) was handcrafted in Morocco. It has a marvelous designs, hand embroidred in Marrakesh-Morocco. This gorgeous pouf measures 18 inches wide by 13 inches tall. This pouf is versatile sit on them, eat off them, put your feet up, it doesn't come stuffed, you can fill it with old clothes or cotton, paper...it has a zipper in the bottom. Add this exotic pouf to your home interior...These are my favorite ones, i bought them recently from justmorocco and they are gorgeous...
