Good Questions: Bedroom of Our Dreams?

7-10-bedroom set.jpgHello AT,

My fiancee and I have just moved in together. We are looking to replace all our college-time furniture with new, nicer, more modern one. We have fallen in love with this bedroom [see picture] from the Italian SMA Mobili. To our utter disappointment, this line has been discontinued in cherry, and we do not like the dark espresso color. We simply cannot find another bedroom that comes anywhere close to SMA's line, with its simplicity and quirkyness (see the wave shaped drawers). Please help us find the bedroom of our dreams!

Thank you, Alexander

Dear Alexander,

This is a tough one. For this shape, we would look at the Conran shop and see extensive help from AT readers.....

Anyone?

Dear Alexander,

Not sure what to suggest here, aside from singing a song ...

Well we ain't got a barrel of money...
We may look ragged and funny...
But we're travelin' on...
Singing our song...
Side by side.

I'm not sure what to say about the bed, but Blu Dot has some dressers and side tables in their new catalog (but NOT on the website yet) that are vert similar to those pictured above.

The prices range (I believe) from about $800 - $2000 depending on the sizes and they come in cherry and maple.

Since they are in the fall catalog though, I'm not sure when they will be available to order online, my recomendation would be to call them and inquire.

My fiance and I are in love with the Anders set from Room & Board:

One of the dressers:

It's modern, it's cherry...it's missing wavy drawers but it's lovely and someday we'll have enough money to buy the lot of it.

Alexander,

I recently finished a custom furniture design project and when the project began, I came up with a number of bed designs with very clean, minimal simple lines not unlike the image you've provided. Send me an email if you'd like to see some examples and are interested in having something custom made.

Alexander,

Forget the off the shelf bed.

Do yourself a favor and hire Brad to design you a bed. You will not only be purchasing something unique, something that will appreciate in value, but one day you will be able to say, "My bed was designed by Brad Ascalon back in 2006"... and people will reply, "You hired Brad Ascalon back in 2006!"

Do yourself a favor and drop him an email.

cheers,
Chris

Greetings,

I am also looking to update my traditional bedroom into something more more contemporary and functional.

I have found this very neat website with some nice styles. The prices there are also pretty good comparing to local New York store's prices.

The website is www.modernlinefurniture.com, and I believe they are located in New Jersey.

Good luck with your purchase!
Dont forget to post pictures, I need some ideas :)
