Good Questions: Branches for Headboard?

2005_1_3_question mark.jpgHey,

I was looking through the Williams Sonoma Home catalog and was actually more into the stick thing behind the headboard than most of the other stuff in the catalog. Do you, or any of your readers know where I could get these sort of decorative branches to do this in the city?

Thanks! David

2005_1_5_bed.jpgThere are flower shops on 28th Street that specialize in branches and you can certainly find these there.

We used to shop at one on 28th, just west of Broadway on the north side of the street (middle of the block) that had great branches. Check it out. (Thanks, David!) MGR

Or you could simply call the Parks Department and find out which parks are going to be undergoing tree pruning. Free banches! Last night I walked through McCaren Park in Williamsburg. There was a HUGE pile of branches. Big, small, fat, thin, anything you'd want.

The long, slender branches in that photo are sucker growth. They grow rapidly and plentifully on commercil fruit trees, and must be pruned yearly. If you want to scam some on the cheap, drive out to the county and ask any apple farmer. Most will happily let you pick suckers off the ground, after puzzling over your arts and crafts.
