Good Questions: Brocade Home Furniture, Thumbs Up?

6-18-brocade-sofa.jpgHello AT,

After a thorough search, I have decided on this sofa from Brocade Home. It is perfect and exactly what I want, but since they don't have a retail store I can't sit on it to make sure. I know there are similar sofas out there from Room and Board and Mitchell Gold, but this one just feels right. Does anyone have any experience with Brocade Home furniture, specifically the sofas?...

Are they well made, is the down/poly ratio in the cushions comfortable? Any help at all would save me from the stress of having to return a sofa.

Thanks! Ashley

Dear Ashley,

This is a great question because Brocade is brand new and few of us can write the report card yet on their furniture. Let's hope it gets a good review and see what people say:

Anyone??

Dont know about Brocade Home quality. But please sit on a sofa before you buy it. Then again I dont know what Brocade Home's return policy given they dont have any bricks and mortar stores. I have been on a months long journey to find the right sofa and nothing surpassed the butt test. Maybe Ashley could find out who manufactures that sofa and can find a showroom where she could sit on a similar sofa. I actually think that AT needs to do a yearly sofa round up for NYC (and with a focus on sofas under 2,000 bucks please)-- because so many questions posted on this site are sofa related.

It's an offshoot of Restoration Hardware

You need to sit on it before you buy it. What's comfortable to some isn't to others (I like down filled cushions and coil springs, for example).

I ordered a mirror from Brocade Home after a very long search for the perfect mirror for my apt... the first time it was delivered, it was so shattered I couldnt even open the box because millions of shards of glass would have gone everywhere. This was a $499 mirror, and it was packed in the thinnest box ever with hardly any protection.

I called to request a replacement and I finally got a new one, after having to check up on the shipment many, many times.

The replacement was broken too! In less peices but still broken.

I was very dissapointed with Brocade Home. Maybe the company has made improvements since I ordered, but from my experience I would not suggest this brand to anyone!

Hi: I think you can return it but you have to pay the shipping cost which is a fortune.

I had a similar experience to the above post. I ordered a large wooden tabledesk from them. I had to call to follow up the order many times and they missed their delivery dates one or two times. I actually ended up getting them to wave the shipping charge b.c. it was so ridiculous. I am happy with the desk though.

I know they are owned by Restoration Hardware - I have a sofa from them and it's the most comfortable sofa I have ever sat in. I wonder if they are made at the same place?

Lastly, I've heard that there are floor sample sales of Brocade stuff in NYC! Good Luck!

Restoration Hardware was taken over by the Pottery Barn people a few years ago and since that time the product quality has declined. Style isn't everything; keep looking.

To the best of my knowledge the previous post is incorrect. Restoration Hardware is not, and was never owned by Pottery Barn. Pottery Barn is owned by Williams Sonoma, Restoration Hardware is independent. This explains why they released Brocade, to compete with West Elm.

VMB is correct: Restoration Hardware is not owned by PotteryBarn/Williams-Sonoma. However, Brocade Home was developed by Lisa Versacio, who joined Restoration Hardware from Williams-Sonoma Inc. where she was responsible for developing and launching the West Elm brand. Most of Brocade Home's upholstered furniture is produced by Mitchell Gold Bob Williams, though I am not sure if this specific sofa is.

Restoration Hardware is a disaster. I will never order from them again. I spent nearly $400 on new Window hardware and it showed up in very flimsy packaging. None of it appeared damaged, but some of the items were completely not what I ordered. I called RH and they simply told me to "reorder"... even though I had already PAID for them once. I finally got it straightened out, but I'll never order from them again. Also, the quality was not great either. Similar to Target I'd say... nothing special. I assume Brocade Home will be similar.

a friend of mine has this couch. it is lovely and comfortable, very wide from the back to the front. two people can sleep on it comfortably. just note the dimensions of the couch before ordering. my friend had to have it cut in order to get it in and out of the apartment.
