Hello AT, I bought this chair at a yard sale, and I love it - I'd really like to know who made it and when, but I don't have any clues. I couldn't find any markings on it, and the metal slats and springs may or may not be original. Does anyone recognize it?
Thanks very much! Erica

I think its a Swedish armchair. I have two of these, from my grandma. they should be 50years old.

Hi Erica
I have the same chair. It took me a couple of years to track down, but the designer is Carlo di Carli, who designed furniture in Italy in the 1950s. He's often compared to (and mis-identitified as) Gio Ponti. I believe this chair was manufactured by the company M. Singer and Sons.
There is also a matching ottoman that was manufactured, which I've only seen in photos, but the two together look amazing. The pair was on sale a couple of years ago at the store R 20th Century in Manhattan.
The chair is beautifully designed and impressively solid, considering the thinness of the joints. I think it's fairly valuable, too.
I hope you have some cushions made and enjoy your new chair!

Wow, thank you so much for sharing the results of your research, BrooklynRob. Even though I was already head-over-heels for this chair (You're right - in addition to being beautiful, it is very solid, and quite comfortable as well), it is very satisfying to know who made it - and those ottomans are gorgeous! Too bad it's not very likely that I'll find one of those at a neighborhood yard sale!
