Good Questions: Cement Sink Repair Tips?

2-8-cementsink.jpgHello AT,

I have a hand poured cement sink in my kitchen and after 6 years of much use, it is starting to crack. Does anyone know of someone who works in this medium?

Thanks, Michael

Since you're probably going to be talking to a lot of people about this in the future take my advice and use the proper terms. Cement is a dry product and concrete is the wet/solid finished version. For example, a person might build a concrete counter after they go to the store and by some cement.

depending on what you're looking to do - replace or repair - this may or may not be helpful but: a very experienced craftsman who works in the shop where my studio is has done a lot of stuff with concrete. his website: http://bovstudios.com/home.html

Given it is a food area you will want to consult an expert concrete repair/rectification person as you will need it to be food safe. There are a number ways to repair cracks in concrete and usually consisit of epoxy products that can be injected in to the concrete.

Ensure the product has a suitable warrante

Good luck and you may want to consider re-grinding the whole sink at this time as well

Looks like it's time for a new sink--that one looks like a dirty sidewalk. That fad is over, anyway.

How about dropping the master of all things concrete, Fu-Tung Cheng, a line? His website (http://www.chengdesign.com/) has all the contact details... And his staff is seper-helfpul.
