Good Questions: Chairs for Vintage Dining Table?

1-20-vintage-chair.jpg

I have this vintage wooden dining table with chrome legs. I would love to find just the right chairs for it. Since I want to fit 2 chairs on each side, they cannot be too wide. I like the idea of non-matching chairs (same color, different style or different color/same style). I can't even decide if I should get wooden chair or not. My budget per chair is under $200 (flexible, within reason!). Any Ideas?

This table is eearily similar to the design of my parents' dining table (that my dad DIY'd in the 70s). My parents have always had light colored Thonet cane chairs that have worked well. Anyone else have suggestions for chairs?

I always think the Bellini chair is underated and looks good with almost any table. You see many of these in Europe paired with many style tables.-

I second the Breuer Cesca chairs:

I kind of like the bench against the wall. I'm not usually a fan of benches for table seating, but two chairs per side seams crowded to me. perhaps a combination of chairs and benches (two benches and two chairs or one bench and four chairs) could help lighten the look?

My thoughts are a combo of the above. Paint the bench white, or a fun color, depending on the rest of your room, and get a few Breuer chairs.

I'm old enough to know this table from the first time around, it was insanely popular with the Breuer chair.

The Breuer chair is a very, very comfortable chair. I have worked in many a studio in the 70's early 80's that had this table and chair!

I think this would be cute with the Ikea Tobias chair, which is sort of the love child of the Breuer and Ghost chairs.

I have a great pair of Panton inspired "S" chairs. I ordered them on-line from Eurway.com They come in four different colors and are currently priced at $219 each. They work great in my small dining room, injecting tons of style and color. And, best of all, they are comfortable!

I may be too old, but what about a set of Thonet bentwood Prague chairs? Personnally, I think they would look great.

I'm in the Breuer camp. It would look very deliberate, and they bounce!

Blue Dot's 'chair chair' is perfect for this table. The base matches the table and it has that wonderful one piece seat and back.

I adore Navy chairs but they don't seem quite right for this table. Contrarily, I am NOT a fan of Breuer chairs but feel they might be an excellent choice for the "match," especially since the styles even vary within the same chair. I love the bench but think it's too rustic with the table. The Bellini Chair may work but I'm still iffy. I actually think the Ikea Tobias chair would be a good choice, and find it one of the more expensive-looking chairs there. Thonet chairs can be cool but only the tubular steel versions would really go with this table and they are SPENDY.

Still voting for the Breuers...

Look at this:
4 used Breuers made by Thonet for $500. in Brooklyn.
Good manufacturer, good price.

Google and you will see that new Breuers "style" can be purchased on line for $125. each.

I have to agree with the IKEA TOBIAS chair. I think they compliment the table without taking away from it at all.
